See summary. It's not a big-brother kind of thing; the man and the boy actually have sex. Yet it's treated as some sort of fond romantic memory, or something. I dunno what sort of attitude people have about this sort of thing in Europe, but here in the US we call it "statutory rape". Very, very unsettling, and not in a good way

Flat, drab, dismal film about a pink-cheeked Dutch boy awakening to his homosexuality in the last days of World War II. By the time he fully wakes up to it, in the arms of a Canadian "liberator" (a tender and respectful pedophile), the audience is apt to be asleep. In a present-day update, the hero reassuringly has turned out to be a choreographer.

An über-nostalgic sap-fest....with sodomy!

Rewatched this after seeing it over 10 years ago & realized I'd forgotten how the main part of the story was framed. The boy we see having an affair with a young American soldier during the liberation of holland in WWII grew up to become a choreographer and creates a dance piece about his experiences. That's the weakest part of this otherwise lovely coming of age tale. The other dance scene is a wonder.
