Méliès is, in my eyes, the undisputable father and king of cinema. Just look at him moving his arms and detaching his heads and playing the banjo, you wanna get in there and hug the guy. All due respect Lumière brothers but you go sit in the corner and film some trains, and be quiet will you.

Not a bad little short film, but it's painfully obvious that the headless conjurer is simply wearing a dark mask.

I'm not one to give extra points for being historic, but that was brilliantly amusing.

I can see women shrieking in disbelief and horror when he detaches his head several times. It's an amazing short film.

Quite short but Méliès' stage presence is still effective and exciting today - the man was truly a talented performer.

How could you not love Georges Méliès? This short is great, you can see the showmanship & craft that Méliès naturally had shine through - it's doubtful many other early film-makers could have pulled this off & made it so charming.

The really fun thing about seeing these old trick films is trying to put yourself in the position of an audience of the time and realizing how awesome and terrifying watching something like this would be if you have no idea how it would've been made.
