Starts off with good intentions, but soon unravels into "what were they thinking?" territory as characters motivations become so counter intuitive even the actors don't buy it and so neither do we. But it's done with so much gusto they sell it anyways.

as with most monster movies this suffers from too much dialog (terrible dialog at that) and not enough monsters. the scene described in the title doesn't actually happen till the last 5 minutes, so you might as well skip to the last scene to save yourself the time.

This marked the first time two celebrity monsters shared the same marquee and screen. As initially scripted, the Monster is blind. That detail was omitted in the final cut, however, which leaves Bela looking like he's perpetually drunk and searching desperately for the nearest men's room! That and other flaws prevent the film from rising to classic status, but there's enough Universal back-lot charm, skilled thesping, and cheap thrills to keep it consistently entertaining.
