Randy Quaid as a psycho redneck running a freakshow in a tiny South American nation, using toxic chemicals to turn people into his attractions. A totally bizarre mix of influences, incorporating everything from Airplane-like sight gag barrages to Garbage Pail Kids style grossout humor and gore. Has some interesting creature effects/puppet work, but the standout feature has to be the rockin' soundtrack featuring bands like Butthole Surfers, Parliament Funkadelic and Blind Idiot God.

There once was a movie called Freaked / From people whose careers had long ago peaked / It has a weird, inconsistent tone / The jokes'll make you groan / All in all this thing kinda reeked

I've never seen a movie that so perfectly encapsulated everything that I would do wrong while making my own movie. I'd be shooting for the bizarro turns in Loaded Weapon 1, be disillusioned into thinking it was equivocal zaniness to Airplane!, and fear that it might come across as the terrible infantile wackiness of Kung-Pow. But it would fall much closer to this. Fun but not really that funny, even if it's earnest weirdness.

Hipster comedy was nothing new at the time, but hipster comedy films were almost unheard of. I wouldn't call it all that influential, or even good, but it happened and paved the way for the things that would pave the way for the groundbreaking things that paved the way for some of the things we love in comedy today. So, I guess you can say it was a successful hipster film. It just sort of sucked.

The dumbest movie I've seen in ages. While watching I kept thinking someone wanted to get fired and YEP, thank you reckless crazy producer.

Wow. The movie knows it is cheesy and bad, so that isn't the problem. The problem is its all weird all the time with very little humor, which just makes it very off-putting.

An exercise in bottom-of-the-barrel absurdist comedy that's lacking in both laughs & any redeeming qualities, this is truly one of the worst 90's movies out there. It has to be. Its only saving graces are the hamtastic performances, particularly from Quaid & Mr. T of all people, & the genuinely great effects from Screaming Mad George. Beyond that, though, this is unfunny, bordering on offensively bad schlock with awful writing & an underwhelming lead performance from Winter. How does this exist?

There are some nice ideas here, but more often than not, the execution leaves something to be desired. Also, the screenplay is inconsistent and loses its way occasionally. This could have been something quite special, but, while it's not terrible, it's pretty far off what I think was intended.

I'll never forget watching this on a sleepover at a friend's during my early teens. We didn't know what to expect and we were laughing our asses off throughout. Whatever faults I can find in it as a "serious adult" fade away against the radiance of this movie's beautiful crazy.

An odd little film that was understandably abandoned by Fox, Freaked represents a bit of a paradox: it's completely unlike any comedy of its time, but it's full of 90's attitude, seemingly aimed at the MTV slacker generation who grew up on films like Airplane, released during the height of the alt-rock boom. But it's too weird to be the product of marketing executives; it's a consciously juvenile comedy that is wild, rude, outrageous and full of inventive makeup and bizarre characters.

A poorly thought out film comprised of sketch after sketch of kitchen sink ideas stitched together like a mosaic over the same characters and setting. The jokes are generally independent of the plot and nineteen out of twenty of them will make you cringe, of the rest, only a couple are funny. "Freaked" doesn't make any sense, it didn't have to when it came out and I was seven and would laugh at anything with a laugh track, but it did not hold up. Think of it like a poor man's "Ace Ventura."

Entertaining, but has a B-movie feel. which in this case is not a tremendous downfall. There are still some great characters played by Bob Goldthwait, Mr. T, and Keanu Reeves round out a funny little flick.

One of the funniest movies I can think of, except for the last 20 minutes, which were just, "Huh?".

Caught this on late night TV. The synopsis for it didn't sound great, but nothing else was on so gave it a shot having very little hope of it being good. Jesus so many of my brain cells started dying not even 10 minutes in I had to turn it off. Unwatchable.

Mr. T and Randy Quaid are pretty much perfect in their roles, but the rest is mostly too over-the-top zany. It's short and an easy enough watch, but the laughs are too spread out.

A bad movie but so bad it's decent. I know that was the point, but it keeps jumping across the line from ironic to just bad.

Once you get used to the constant attempts (and unceasing failures) at humor, you might get a half-hearted chuckle here and there. But in a full feature film, one or two jokes that are actually funny is something of an insult to the comedy genre. Then again, it is very obvious from any segment of the film that the target audience consists of semi-independent manchildren.

Just about all the comedy fails, but it is just uniquely bizarre enough to not be a total disaster.

It's brain-numbingly dumb. But I have to say, I was on board with the ridiculously idiotic humor. The good thing about rapid-fire jokes is that when enough of them stick, you don't worry about the bad ones.
