6+ recommended :: Doesn't completely malign the original (which is good) and it also offers up some surprises (also good) ...but the script could have used one more rewrite.

Dumb but enjoyable vampire movie full of little homages to others in the genre. Colin Farrell is surprisingly good as the villain and, along with Tennant's scenery-chewing alcoholic vampire killer, steals most of the scenes. The scenes without them aren't so great, although the presence of Imogen Poots makes them pleasantly watchable.

This is the type of movie that I can tolerate being remade. The 1985 film of Fright Night is fun, but in no way sacred. I liked it quite a bit. Very enjoyable despite the overall vampire saturation of current media. The film mostly rests on the shoulders of Anton Yelchin & Colin Farrell. Two likable actors who are willing to bring it to a goofy vampire flick. The complete Peter VIncent character re-imagining was only annoying to me because David Tennant was slightly annoying to me in this role.

It sticks reasonably close to the original, mostly just updating it. I liked the performances from Anton Yelchin, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and especially David Tennant (even if he was just playing Criss Angel meets Russell Brand for some of it). I really didn’t care for Colin Farrell though. Anyway, yeah, not really a good movie and I could pick it to pieces. But I knew what to expect, and I just enjoyed the ride. Also, I got a kick out of Chris Sarandon’s cameo.

Mr. Farrell brings something new to the genre which by now and for now seems to have overstayed it's welcome. Please give the vampires a little rest, and let them resurface in 5-10 years. Other than that, Fright Night is straight on from the beginning and without to much fucking around.

Considering the cast this film had put together, it had the potential to be much better than it was. The original walked a line between horror and comedy and this one had tools to do the same, yet instead favored the horror. The problem is, it didn't handle horror very well either. Worth checking out if your a fan of the original, although I can already warn you, you won't be impressed.

Definitely something I thought I would NOT like. Remakes of movies? Really? Why? However...this was definitely something of it's own. The story line and the horror and action was quite there for me. Also, I loved that I had sympathy for the characters that turned, especially the friend and the "whore" woman imprisoned. Definitely a MUST to see and enjoy. And if you think it would diminish the original, don't. It did NOT disappoint.

Vampire films often tend to be hit & miss, but luckily this one is all hit! A few flaws aside it's a very entertaining and enjoyable film with a great cast and concept, and while I haven't seen the original I hear it's stayed true to it, as well as other related vampire films. Anton Yelchin & Colin Farrell are great together and Jerry was the perfect vampire villain! Overall an enjoyable Horror film that will easily please fans of the genre, and it's one of the better recent vampire flicks!

Even the characters who aren't supposed to be douche bags are douche bags in this juvenile, sexist mess of a vampire remake. Also, I feel just awful for Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who will never escape the career killing clutches of McLovin.

No atmosphere, no tension, no humour, no soundtrack, no tonal consistency, no enjoyable characters, no fun, goddamn motherfucking CGI, and worst of all, no respect for it's source material. Everything the brilliant 85 film had, the 2011 remake has not. The only things saving it from being one of the worst remakes of the year are David Tennants very, very mildy amusing role and the tolerable 3D.

Rather than write a review for this movie, I'm going to describe a profound moment during my movie theater experience. Before the movie started, there was a trailer for the prequel/remake of John Carpenter's "The Thing". I heard someone in the audience sigh loudly and exclaim "Hollywood is so out of ideas! They'll remake anything!" ... and yet, we were in the theater to watch a remake of another 80's horror movie.

It's been a while since a stylish vampire flick like Fright Night has come out and I really enjoyed this! It certainly didn't need the 3D release but it had a solid storyline with likeable characters and the right amount of blood & gore. Colin Farrell was an excellent choice as Jerry. I thought it was similar to Disturbia in some parts as well as The Lost Boys in other parts, but still a rather unique vampire film that will certainly impress fans of the genre, and I would highly recommend it :)

Pleasantly surprised! I love Imogen Poots, she's gorgeous and actually has acting chops which is nice of course. David Tennant and McLovin' bring the laughs in a big way, and, I can't believe I'm gonna give this to him, but props are due to Colin Farrell. It's a role he gets to have fun with and he very clearly does. He's done some stinkers and been in great movies (typically not great because of him directly, but in them nonetheless). He's quite good here. I feel it does the original justice.

Decent remake that tones down some of the comedy of the original for a slightly more tense and scary atmosphere, and a ton of CGI blood. Colin Farrell does a nice job of portraying a feral bloodsucker whose violent compulsions seethe just below the calm surface. Christopher Mintz-Plasse provides a few laughs as the buddy who gets turned and Imogen Poots is very hot throughout. Plus a small cameo from Chris Sarandon, the guy who played the vampire role in the original flick. Not bad at all.

A nice surprise. Horror movies usually aren't my thing, but when done well, as here, I can appreciate them. FRIGHT NIGHT isn't hugely scary, per se, going for a more satirical edge, but the vampire Jerry (Colin Farrell) has a good suave menace to him, and the helplessness of the hero (Anton Yelchin), if cliched, is still effective. There are still dashes of that annoying Hollywood vision of high school, but it's mostly a fun ride, boosted by David Tennant's gleeful turn as a tipsy occultist.

As much fun as a root-canal.

The story line is average, bu the acting is engaging and energetic. The action is good; the girls are hot; and the jokes work. Watch the film. It isn't Matrix, but what is?

Yeah, it's good. It's tongue-in-cheek in ways and I suppose that makes it a bit satirical, but it's still a vampire movie, which -- at this point -- takes a lot more to impress me. It's solid and a decent time, but really nothing more than that. Everything is competent, though I don't feel like it was that funny.
