"As loyal as Chéreau's film is to Conrad's story, the director expands its point of view by giving more authority to the female experience Conrad suppresses in his text." - Ed Gonzalez

Gabrielle is a beautifully executed and oppressively intimate film about the end of a wealthy couple's marriage. The acting is magnificent: Huppert is great as always, but Pascal Greggory's performance is outstanding. The directing, cinematography, and score are also pitch-perfect.
