Starts off as a funny comedy but morphs into a tedious moralistic and maudlin "traditional ways are best" martial arts movie.

A good and mildly entertaining homage to old school kung fu flicks. It tries to be funny and doesn't quite work the same can be said when it goes for meaningful drama. The film never goes far enough in any direction to real allow the characters and story to shine which is a shame since I really enjoyed the idea and seeing all of the old timers.

This is an odd one, but how can you not enjoy it with character names like 'Black Pony Sofia Loren', 'Golden Swallow', 'Bronze Rooster' and 'Curry in a Hurry'.

A disappointing blend of humour and martial arts which feels highly derivative of countless previous films in the genre but most notably Stephen Chow's work. While there are several distinctive characters, the movie doesn't know which to focus on, and the story is generally weak and uninteresting. Even the pop-culture tone which is attempted, through funky titles, voiceovers, animated interludes and English being spoken, lacks assertion, just like all other aspects of the movie. Worth avoiding.

Quite entertaining love letter to 1970s Shaw Brothers films, nailing the spirit of their martial arts films while introducing a new audience to the wonders of actors/artists such as Leung Siu-Lung and Kuan Tai Chen. Its romanticism regarding the martial arts films of yore extends to the way the film's narrative structure, though, which means unresolved plotlines, forgoing character development for cheap comedy and a tired Karate Kid-esque central narrative.
