Its nihilistic, obnoxious and one-dimensional, gleefully filling the screen with tits and violence, but its intentional, mocking genre conventions and 'good' taste like with Crank High Voltage, but to also match the grim and horrible world being depicted. It also sneaks in ideas on technology far more interesting and intelligent than in most serious science fiction cinema. It's not for everyone, considering Neveldine/Taylor's ADD mentality, but it's far smarter than it first appears to be.

What people who don't play video games view as the "logical conclusion" of video games. If you play, plan on feeling offended by almost every minute of this movie.

My EYES! My EYES!!! I feel violated after seeing this film. Easily one of the most incompetently made films made post-2000. I would imagine that if someone with even mild epilepsy were to watch this, they would have to be rushed to the emergency room 15 minutes into the film. Michael C Hall is great here, but not worth seeing the film for. Terrible script, terrible plot, terrible execution.

Bleh. For some reason I watched this back to back with Surrogates and they had very similar plots/themes. Both films should be avoided.

the utter horror and revulsion of the gerard-butler-rescuing-his-wife-from-"society" sequence paints a far more effective and visceral portrait of the relationship (/disconnect) between emotion, technology, and the human body, than sam worthington waking up as a giant cgi alien in AVATAR. in fact, the "i've-got-you-under-my-skin"-puppetry is worth a thousand AVATARs all by itself.

Obviously the writers and directors had big plans for this, with their satirical look at violence and desensitizing of the public in general. Apparently thinking only they understood this they choose to cram it down your throat then jump up and down on it until you swallow it whole.

It takes the worst fears of the online world and smears them across our faces. Everyone seem to have lost their humanism. Although intentional, it just feels like a clinical, one dimensional style of story telling.Nothing rings true. The movie makes no sense. The dialogue is atrocious, the editing is lousy, the world portrayed is ridiculous. I cannot fathom how the director, producer, and editor could possibly give the go ahead with this...unless they were all on drugs .. of the bad kind.

Another cynical film that equates posthuman bodies (and video game violence) with sexual depravity and Harkonnian corpulence. The gist of Gamer is that, in the near future, humans can control the poor and convicts in video games akin to The Sims and Call of Duty. Watching this you wonder how that happened because the tech's inventor, the villain of the movie, appears to be a total imbecile. The acting as a whole is also brutal...Gerard Butler looks like he doesn't care, so why should we?
