Sadly, not as colorfully over-the-top as the sequels. It's structurally strange, as it sets up a bunch of human subplots early on, then gets caught up in the battle against Gamera and has to resolve them in the last thirty seconds.

"Millions die, but he's still a good guy. Trust me, I'm nine years old!" Lacks the fun of the sequels while lacking the grim grit of the first Gojira; placing it in a lull somewhere between. This is the one time I'll say stick with color. [MST3k: I have to disagree with the majority on this one. Not nearly their best and vastly overrated. They do much better on the sequels]

Unlike Godzilla or 20 Million Miles to Earth, the monster is not good enough to overcome the rest of the productions incredible shortcomings. Sure, Gamera looks cool (who doesn't like flying turtles?), but he doesn't do much of anything.

Takes forever for nothing to happen.

Ahhhh, we LOVE Gamera in our house. A giant turtle that flies by spinning and has jets fire flames out of it's arse. what's not to love???
