Jim Davis' bland non-offensive humour is just as entertaining on the big screen as it is in the comics (that is to say not at all).

I've gome to the conclusion that I am the only one that likes garfiled anymore. But I grew up with that Lasagna loving cat. This unfortunately is not the movie that it should have been. It did not capture the spirit of the strip. Bad writing, Jon was just wrong, The vet was even worse. Why was Garfield CGI but not Odie or Nermal? This could have been so much better.

The original comic strip is very, VERY simple, but this movie still manages to get the characters, basic relationships, humor, and tone all wrong. Bill Murray voicing Garfield could have been awesome, but with such lazy filmmaking and a script that's about as funny as a baby's funeral, it's all for nothing. Read "Garfield Minus Garfield" instead.

While some elements of it work quite well, like the design of the CGI Garfield himself along with his voice, there are a lot of elements which are simply totally wrong. The mix of CGI with real life animals in the place of characters like Odie feels cheap, the plotline is weak and feels designed for small children, musical moments feel tacked on, this take on Garfield has a nasty character and it generally lacks any developed humour. It looks like Garfield, but it's not the right cat.

Mixing a CGI Garfield with a human Jon is weird, but mixing a CGI Garfield with a non-CGI Oddie is just wrong. I was also turned off watching our favorite LAZY cat do overly energetic dance moves and running sequences. I'm reminded more of Heathcliff than Garfield.

Terrible. I would rather they just have Bill Murray read to us from the comic strip for an hour and a half.

More revolting than the original. The voice of Garfield is anemic and animation on all parts terrible, like on live action animals.

Simply put, it's a defamation of what is an amazing comic and later a great cartoon adaptation. The only thing keeping this up from an utter abyss of horrifying crap is Murray's apt portrayal as the voice of Garfield.

This movie is mostly a vessel for product placement. In one shot, we see Garfield sitting in a chair eating Goldfish crackers, making sure that the label stays clearly visible the whole time. He name-drops various food establishments like Wendy's and Olive Garden when they don't really pertain to anything at all, and for some weird reason, they decided to make Garfield a CGI animal, but none of the other animal characters.

Even though he might not be physically correct to the comic, Garfield is still the smug, yet lovable character that fans of the comic strip love. The movie might not get everything, or even most things from comic right, but it nailed that aspect. The plot of the film is basic, and there is certainly a childish tone throughout, but it isn't a film to be enjoyed strictly by children, but instead, one that is potentially charming to all audiences, young or old.

Dull and tedious from the get-go; one would think that Murray’s sardonic sensibilities would be ideally deployed here, but he is given the weakest, clunkiest lines to deliver, and not helped by the nightmare of a early-aughts CGI job – incongruously standing out from all of the “real-life” creatures around him means there is a strange, alienated feeling around the character. Some brief moments of levity with Tobolowsky doing his best Phil Connors impression, but even that wears thin quickly.

It's colorful, energetic and has talking animals, so kids will probably watch with rapt attention. Meanwhile, there is just too little offered to anyone else, so unless you're stuck for eternity in a doorless, windowless room with just a TV, DVD player and a copy of this movie, I'd say there's really no reason to make the attempt.

With a star studded cast, a stellar script, and a built in fanbase of people who love tabby cats, Breckin Meyer, and well drawn Sunday comics, what could possibly go wrong? A lot, apparently. The actor who played Garfield, Reginald von Scratchypants, was a bit of a prima donna who refused to come out of his trailer unless he was given Purina Cat Chow. This, of course, incensed Meyer, since he was refused the same meal at Craft Services.

I know a lot of people wouldn't bother seeing this, but I thought it was clever and pretty well done. I admire the technical craft that went into it. Interacting with things that aren't there has to be pretty challening. This is a movie you could enoy more than once, which is a good indicator.

The casting is spot on of this movie; Breckin Meyer as Jon, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Liz and of course Bill Murray as Garfield himself. The combination of live action and animated Garfield doesn't always work. Especially with the other animals who you can see looking at their trainers off screen at times. But it wasn't horrible and passes the time on a Saturday morning.
