A charming English film with a war-time feel both in terms of dialogue and structure. This isn't going to stretch you as far as plot or story is concerned but it is a gem of the 50's British film industry. A gentle and whitty early road story of types. Great cameo parts from Joyce Grenthfel could go unmissed. If this era passed you by this is a good starting point.

One of those films that -- while focusing on a specific event -- manages to beautifully capture the broader humanity through naturalism's interpersonal minutiae. I could envisage the lives of the two leads before and beyond the film, as well as hear their thoughts in each moment of silent soliloquy. It's not uproariously funny, but it's astonishingly wholesome for a film of its genre.
