His material is weak, his vitriol is overpowering and his jokes are easy, but the real downer here is Carlin's smug hypocrisy. Like all wannabe philosopher comics, his holier-than-thou, 'I'm the only one who sees the truth' rhetoric is embarrassingly misplaced, and if this is Carlin at his best, it's a wonder how he built a career at all.
