Frantic black farce which seems determined to shock, but has a few good scenes once you get attuned to the mood. A censorship milestone.

Georgy has to navigate some pretty unpleasant alternatives as she struggles to find happiness and fulfillment in 60s London. The movie seemed like something Todd Solondz would've done, if he were directing back in the day (and I mean that as a compliment; Solondz has sympathy for the unloved, with a penchant for putting us through the excrutia,ting indignities they face). "Hey there, Georgy Girl! Swinging down the street, so fancy-free..." Sorry, had to get that out of my system.

Really bad emendation of the title track in the finale though (and what are we to make of that ending anyway?--seems awfully cynical). Charlotte Rampling plays one of the all-time repellent characters.

Pretty good.
