A film in which a child jumps on Nicolas Cage and vomits fire into his face so he can turn into Ghost Rider should be awesome. But it just ins't. Better than the first, but that isn't saying much...

Cage rocks, but everything else is pretty bad. The action's dark, shaky and hard to see, and there's no reason to care about the plot. It's a modern B-movie.

The Crank Bros. (that is their name now) manage to make the movie feel far more bearable than the previous entry, though it never really escapes a direct-to-video feel. The undoing of this movie might actually be that it peaks to early in both imagination and and "kick-ass"-value at about the halfway mark, and consequently the final showdown feels pretty empty, not helped by a pretty scathingly ineffective Satan-as-villain. If you need your dose of crazy-Cage, go here, but consume with caution.

The most glaring problem with this movie is its poor writing. The lines are cheesy even by super hero movie standards. Nick Cage also did a very poor acting job in this movie. It wasn't as bad as Bangkok Dangerous but not too far off of that either. Some of the animation was really cool in this with all the flaming skulls and such. I really enjoyed the guy who could decay things (except twinkies). Idris Elba and Ciaran Hinds helped this film with excellent acting. Otherwise kind of a bore.

Ok, it's easy to say lousy things about GRSV, but this is the kind of campy and mad superhero flick I would like to see more often: the cameras are put on the ground, following this former angel riding through eastern european landscapes, setting everything that he touches on fire with bright flames of self-irony. Neveldine/Taylor can't do much with a movie that is meant to be watched by kids and fans, but they actually achieve nice results. The Wish You Were Here homage was beautiful.

This film is from a transitional period for Marvel. Where the first Ghost Rider was firmly in the shitty era this one was like a prototype for the now perfected but hollow film production process that gave us The Hulk, Thor, Avengers etc. Less colourful kids comic book but still very much wrapped in adolescent fantasy. It's rough around the edges but there is more competence here than in their previous films. Also, +10 for the demonic bucket wheel excavator, or Bager 666 if you will.

Well...damn. The first one was junky fun. This one's just junky. It threw me off from the first scenes, and I was never able to get comfortably back on board--it's just such an oddly arrhythmic, haphazard, everything-but-the-kitchen sink kind of mess. I don't know if Neveldine & Taylor were trying too hard, or were too aggressively hamstrung by the PG-13 rating, or if the unnecessary 3D sucked the life out of it, or what, but it just sorta sits there. Elba's good, though.

Neveldine/Taylor are glorious hacks that can shake up an action sequence, but can't handle regular human interaction. A skunk-shot script won't help their case either. 'Ghost Rider 2' is so bland and embarrassing that even a few marginally-well constructed action set pieces can't save it. The story and the actors, as well as a direct-to-video aesthetic, kill this sequel---a film that participates in churning the fascinatingly batty Nic Cage and his desperate hair into a has-been-turned-roadkill.

Acceptable, entertaining action movie, light years beyond the first. Nic Cage is putting in a better performance, here, and the action scenes are actually action scenes this time! Much more satisfying than the watching a CGI Nic Cage walk slowly towards a hot topic reject and instantly kill them of the first.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance has actors that are too talented to be in it (I'm thinking of Elba and Placido here), a script that gives us a reason for action scenes and nothing much more, and a committed, insane performance by Nicolas Cage. It's a campy, fun movie given to us cheaply by a tag-team of directors who know how to have a good time at the movies. It's not really good, but it's enjoyable and it looks pretty good. This is the Ghost Rider film you should choose to watch.

When your movie franchise is on its last legs, and suffering budget cuts, move it to Eastern Europe. The low-budget approach somehow works for this film, and it's marginally better than its prequel. No way this should have been a cinema release, but watching it as a direct-to-DVD sequel sort of works.

Its suffers from the restrictions posed on directors, not the PG-13 certificate but the fact that its a comic book adaptation that was written by other people and kept under the conventions of this current sub-genre. And yet, both the directors and Nicolas Cage, despite the slight disappointment with the film, manage to have one or two moments shine through. One scene where Cage freaks out shows how talented he is.

In its finest moments, GHOST RIDER: SoV is a crazed thrillride; the Rider's urine-stream of fire, Ciaran Hinds' enjoyably hammy performance, the welcome presence of Idris Elba, and some choice bits of fiery mayhem. It's not consistently crazy enough, though, and it lags in spots; Nicolas Cage does some of his worst phoning-it-in, and the script is a total mess, not helped by some fairly wretched directing and editing. Still, as crash-bang entertainment goes, you could do a good deal worse.

Stupid, but at times pretty enjoyable. I thought Neveldine/Taylor were a good fit for the material, their energetic madness combines rather well with the Ghost Rider character and Cage's extremely unhinged acting. The by the numbers plot is dragging everything down though, offering preciously few moments of actual entertainment.

It's bland as hell. How does this happen when you've got a character like Ghost Rider (who I admit, isn't the fullest character in the Marvel universe) and guys who are renowned for making fucked up, full of energy action flicks? The story is completely horrible, and the villains are boring on top of being soulless and forgettable. Shouldn't have had high hopes in the first place, but still a massive massive disappointment.

One of the only pleasures I get in this world is watching Nic Cage act crazy. And he does not disappoint here. This movie is silly, campy, cheesy and occasionally dark, and it's better for it. It's batshit insane. While some things were wonky, I mostly had a good time here. It was fun and mindless with cool action.
