Like its predecessor, Innocence is nice brain-stimulation; the difference being that this is very exhausting and less action-oriented. It is a good deal more complex than the original film, but as a consequence the execution is far more convoluted. Mamoru Oshii isn't modest and gets caught up in his own semantics, but I must give credit to such a thoughtful film. The animation is staggering, and the film is just drenched in an atmosphere of grime and despair. Impressive, but pretentious.

The blend of tradition animation and CGI looks gross, the dialogue is awful, and the story is slow and doesn't really go anywhere. It's supposedly isn't a sequel, but it wouldn't make much sense without having seen the first one.

Honestly, this movie is basically one long philosophy quote. Batou or some other character is almost always quoting something. Still, this sequel to the original is very entertaining and I'll admit to initially liking it more than it's elder sibling. Time and age change things, though. A very good looking film, though. I missed Motoko, though. A ten minute cameo just isn't enough.

The animation in this movie is so mindblowingly beautiful that I had to pause my DVD every so often and marvel at the combination between traditional animation, still life and computer generation.

Watched this straight after the first and it's not in the same league. The stylishness of the original is replaced by a jarring mix of CGI and traditional animation. The plot really only occurs during the first and last 10 minutes. The rest takes the philosophizing of the first movie to ridiculous levels; it's almost like sitting through a lecture accompanied by some flashy visuals.

Innocence was the better executed vision of GITS1 - beautiful and sumptuously layered it cuts through the nature of sentience and a human bias in that regard, as well as psychoanalytic glances into the Japanese doll obsession. Not pretentious at all. Lots of great sound and visuals make it appeal to far more than just the intellect.

Confusing, but extremely well animated and a fun exploration of what makes something alive.

Spectacular adaption of Shirow's work. A fan could spot the influences from the comic which the director drawed upon. It's a lot more "thought-heavy" than the first GiTS, but I think it's also a lot more meaningful.

A complex, disturbing work that is more a search for personal identity in a postmodern society, comprised of symbols and complex hierarchical structures (and therefore a text that summarizes philosophy, like Beaudrillard and Geertz), and NOT a standard actioner (as it was advertised). If you like your films nuanced and talky, then it's a masterpiece. If not, then you will be severely disappointed.

Deze viel me erg tegen. Veel te veel onbegrijpelijke "filosofische" dialogen en totaal geen spanning daardoor. Er zat geen vaart in. Doch de plaatjes waren wel mooi.

The animation is lovely, but the plot is complex to the point of inscrutability, leaving Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence both original and numbing.
