This review is of the TV series, of which I recommend over the movie. more to this show than originally thought. As a result, I actually like this series more as I continue to watch it. That is pretty rare.
Animation not handsome. Ergo, action sequences, usually anime's strong suit, not very exciting. Not bad overall, but no improvement on the series (which I also don't dig); I appreciate the labyrinthine plotting, but to what extent I am engaged is limited 'cause I don't believe in these characters at all. The Major is sexy, but have you ever known ANY woman who would dress like that unless she was an actress or a courtesan? Do you know any woman who would wear the same outfit every day?
My opinion is just that: A stunning and breathtaking Universe, coupled with a mind-fuck of a plot (although still extremely enjoyable, and even plausible), is the phenomenal zenith of the Sci-Fi genre. While lacking the story of the OAV series on television, this movie retains the complexity and adventure of the series. Always a thrilling choice...
Originally a tv show, it was truncated to be more film friendly. If possible, watch the tv show anime, it's more elaborate, and with the GitS series, much of the beauty is in the story.
