While Ghostbusters has rightly become one of the most memorable films in the industry, it's actually wildly inconsistent for such a celebrated film. There are many memorable quality moments, but these are interspersed with some sections which are distinctly lacking in the wacky humour seen in the rest of the film. Saying that the casting is great, the soundtrack is now true classic and there are a couple of genuine comedy moments. 80's visiual effects look weak now, but they fit the wacky feel.

Rarely does a film with such a great mix of deadpan, slapstick, wisecracking, and ectoplasm come around. Ghostbusters will change your mind on what a comedy is supposed to be. The cast, the effects, and the story make this one a real winner. Truly one best films of the 80's. Awesome!

Positively hilarious film. I'm quite impressed that even though it was made in the 80's it's not dated and terrible like so many 80's films are. Everyone in this is fantastic and play off one another perfectly. Every single joke in the film is funny, there's literally not one point where you're not entertained.

Though some magic may be lost on first-time viewers, this comedy classic is as innovative and entertaining as anything from the 80s. The cohesive chemistry of the ensemble cast is inspired & the special effects aren't as dated as one may expect. The creature design is unique and the blend of sci-fi & humor has rarely been done so well. It's iconic and spawned a number of spin-offs and loads of merchandise, but the most important thing may be the way it made science and engineering look so cool.

A comedy classic with an ensenble comedy cast, which spawned a sequel, a cartoon, a few video games, and a bunch of toys I personally owned. Looking back, it's still as great as it was when I saw it in theaters as a kid.

"Ghostbusters" is considered a classic comedy that perfectly blends science fiction, special effects and bust-a-gut humor-- but I'm unfortunately in the minority. While the film may have been impressive in 1984, it doesn't hold up today at all. Bill Murray has some good lines, but most of the cast is wasted as there's nothing all that funny going on. I've watched it a number of times over the years to warm up to it, but it's just far too dated for me to fully enjoy as I may have 20 years ago.

Ghostbusters is one of my all time favourites and one of the best films of the 80s. There's still so much fun to be had after so many years and repeated viewings. The quotable humour and crazy characters remain as loveable and fun as first time round. Bill Murray is hilarious and his deadpan performance is comic genius. Dan Aykroyd & Harold Ramis are great also and the chemistry between the trio is brilliant. I will never outgrow Ghostbusters, it's an infectious and timeless piece of filmmaking.

I might've been more sympathetic toward Ghostbusters if I'd seen it when I was much younger, or if I at least were familiarized with the Ghostbusters universe at a younger age. I'm not saying that only children could enjoy it, but at least I couldn't quite get into it. Aykroyd, Moranis, Weaver and especially Murray are all good, but the plot and the general ghostbusting idea never struck me as better than average.

Sometimes people rate movies by the amount of "memorable quotes". You hear about this phenomenon with "Caddyshack" a lot. I'm sorry, this owns "Caddyshack" (Ted Knight excluded, he can't be touched). "I collect spores, molds and fungus." "Gozor the Gogarian? Good evening..." "That of a giant SLOR!!!" "Egon, you know, this reminds me of the time you tried to drill a hole in your head." "That would have worked if you hadn't stopped me." I mean, I didn't even mention "He slimed me" until just now.

Ghostbusters is infallible in my eyes. This movie has some of the funniest men of their time in a sci-fi comedy. This movie is like tucking in with a grilled cheese sandwich and a can of soup on a cold day, it's just comforting. Dan Aykroyd is goofy but in a really sweet way. Bill Murray is a condescending asshole but he's that guy that just draws people in somehow. Harold Ramis is the nerdyiest character of them all but at times he is the funnies; whether he knows it or not.

A prime example of what amazing entertainment the 80s nourished. Right up there with other classics such as 'Gremlins' and 'Back to the Future', it hails from an era when family fares weren't targeted at the youngest denominator. It's a charming, magical feel-good ride, from the decade when imagination could run free. As the SFX fade in time, the deadpan comedy holds, and it remains one of the quintessential Murray comedies. I submit this review with the guilty admission of a nostalgic soul.

Just about one of the funniest films ever made. Murray is inspired, and is backed up by an awesome script and very good comic perfomances from Ramis and Aykroyd, who have an excellent on screen chemistry between them. It may be looking a tad dated, but it deserves to be remembered for the classic it is.

Incredibly fun 80's Sci-Fi comedy with great energy and pacing backed by an iconic soundtrack. I mean, it's alright. The original trio have a good amount of chemistry together (Ramis the nerd, Murray the deadpan cool guy, Aykroyd the straight man) but on his own Murray's schtick gets misogynist and tiresome real quick. Plot-wise, their rise to success feels too sudden and honestly, it's way more enjoyable early on when they're down-on-their-luck underdogs. The wild apocalyptic elements contrast nicely with the crew's dry, down-to-earth vibes but highlight some terrible visual effects.

Having seen this at 15 when it first came out & been mostly unimpressed, this rewatch just reaffirms what I thought back then: this is really kid's stuff. Presumably it's beloved bc people saw it at the right age (under 12) & loved it. Murray has a couple of funny lines esp at the start, but less & less so as it goes. The silliness always undercuts any sense of stakes like when Gozor attacks them, they're in no danger & only pushed back. A line like "He slimed me" would only be memorable to kids

The combination of sci-fi, horror and comedy is unique and mostly works very well. Indeed, one could even read this as an exploration of the discipline of science more broadly and the way in which formal institutions tend to dull innovative research. Murray, Moranis and Weaver are particularly enjoyable to watch in their respective roles.

I've seen this twice now and still can't understand the appeal. I don't think I laughed once and I found Bill Murray's character to generally be a misogynistic douchebag. The action/sci-fi elements work better than the comedy but even then it's still just an above-average action flick by 1980's standards.

Ode to the free market and forceful attack on the scourge of the EPA. A little rough around the edges but funny and likeable, and the filmmakers deserve congratulation for figuring out a clever solution to the problem of how to extract a mountain of cash from the correct deployment of Bill Murray. What exactly was the thinking behind Ernie Hudson's character? The best line in the film doesn't even get a subtitle on the blu-ray.

"Yes it's true, this man has no dick." An enduring classic, it's aged far better than many films of its time. A truly hilarious performance from Bill Murray, an instantly recognizeable theme, and a concept that remains an original all these years later are what put it over the top. Moranis and Aykroyd are very funny as well, and the 80s effects just add to the charm. Iconic images (Stay-Puft Man, above all). It saddens me that I can no longer find my Ghostbusters toys from when I was a kid.

Top badass moment? It's one of the all-time best comedies... and they catch ghosts too. I feel I’ve watched this movie a thousand times. It’s also one of the films I quote way too many lines from, my favourite being, “Okay, whatever happens, let's be professional”. I used to use that before carrying out job interviews at work. And also, if you don't know it, Google ERB Ghostbusters. Is it weird to wonder if the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is vegan? No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

For the vast majority of its efficient running time, Ghostbusters is an enjoyable experience. It's a funny movie with several big "wow" moments, well-established characters, a plot with logical progression and momentum, a very funny script, and several great performances. It's a film that pretty much works for its entire time on-screen, which is quite an accomplishment given that it's a film that's permeated pop culture to the point that it should bore us. But it doesn't. It's that good.

This is one of those charming pre CGI Sci-Fi blockbusters. It often gets toted as being a classic, and while not bad it doesn't quite fully deliver in that aspect. The concept, and performances are all good, but the screenplay can be pretty sloppy in parts and the humor just feels like Bill Murray vamping a lot of the time. Still, like I said, its a charming pre CGI Sci-Fi blockbuster. Harmless and enjoyable enough for kids and adults who originally saw it should have a fun nostalgia trip.
