Yes, it's funny, but the reliance on Bill Murray's adlibs and the episodic nature of the plot means that it fails entirely to hang together into a cohesive unit. The result is a very hit-and-miss affair that never really manages to draw you in, despite having all the elements necessary to be a really great comedy.

A brilliant concept, great characters perfectly played by the actors and an amazing script. Bill Murray's performance as Venkman is the obvious standout, his dry, sarcastic humour fitting the movie perfectly, he also plays off Weaver well. The effects for the ghosts still look great and the action scenes are genuinely good. The comedy comes out of the characters rather than as lame one-liners, though the movie is filled with quotable dialogue, especially at the end. Still holds up really well.

Picks up some marks for the generally endearing cast, who deliver some laughs, but pretty average.

This is so much fun! A great popcorn movie that can be watched over and over again. I love the staypuft marshmallow man!!!
