I should’ve just stared at the poster for 80 minutes.

I was nine when this movie came out, I remember being at the local video store and seeing the little monster coming out of the toilet on the cover. It freaked me out and I remember having to check a few times when I sat down to do my business. That memory is stronger than anything actually in the movie.

"Ghoulies" is a bad movie despite its cheesy low-budget exterior. It takes a goofy, crazy premise and presents it in the most mundane, lifeless way that I find it hard to believe that the fun creativity used on the poster didn't carry over into the rest of the movie. If you're at all familiar with Band productions, you should have no surprises here.

The best thing about this movie is the cover: a green monster with suspenders standing in a toilet. The movie itself is pretty bad.

missed watching this on Friday 13th, BUT the spooky night spirit carried over to Saturday and I convinced my movie-hating wife to watch with me. Just before we were about to start, a work friend called her -- and she pulled a speakerphone "Say hi!" Instead of saying "hi" I said "WE'RE GONNA WATCH GHOULIES" and long story short, somebody's first impression of me is rambling strangely about ghoulies and toilets, which is probably the deepest most accurate, genuine first impression I've ever given.

Similar to how a gluttony of slasher films followed "Halloween"(1979) throughout the 80's, the horror/comedy classic "Gremlins"(1984) seemingly in$pired a slew of imitator small-creature features. Although known as a poor man's "Gremlins", "Ghoulies" was actually released a few months prior, but then was given a wider release following the success of "Gremlins". Despite all that, instead of being about the cheesy goofy "Ghoulies" puppets, it is a kind of fun/boring 80's Satanic occult B-movie.

Routine _Gremlins_ clone that never successfully mixes humor and horror, despite a few effective moments (like Bresee as a satanic temptress with a *really long* tongue). The ending is an especial cop-out, though this was successful enough to inspire several direct-to-video follow-ups.

I knew this would be bad but it was still strangely disappointing. There were very few ghoulies and none of them acted in a wacky or sassy way (no sunglasses or air guitar etc.).

Low-grade shit. Sometimes I hate October. The climax, a struggle between two old guys with lightning, was somewhat enjoyably campy, at least.

Oddly accurate about Satan worship and paganism; in its own naive way. Filled with Charles Band's touches, this is one of the better examples of it all working.

Another movie where the idea and aesthetic of this thing should be amazing but the execution just isn't there. Excited to see where the series goes. Damn that poster just draws you in

this isn't a great film, or even all that good. parts 2 and 3 are so much more entertaining, but this film still gets a 65 because it's nostalgic, it's one of the first horror films I ever saw and it made me a lifelong fan of the genre.

Carried by Liapis' solid, all-in performance & the corny charm of the Ghoulies themselves, beyond that it's a slow, poorly paced & somehow boring flick that fails to provide any scares & takes itself too seriously to give more than a couple of laughs. The tone is often inconsistent, the plot is contrived, the writing is lazy & the characters all feel flat. There's just not a lot to like, which is unfortunate because the premise is fun. It does get points for Mariska Hargitay, though.

Objectively? Yeah this is bad, but there is a certain joy to it as well. While there may not be enough Ghoulies in Ghoulies, when they are on screen it is a riot. From its iconic poster to Empire Pictures' classic cheese, Ghoulies is a pretty good time.

Any chance of being fun this film had was sucked out by dull self-seriousness and very poor directing.

It is weird that a movie called Ghoulies needs a lot more Ghoulies in it. The poster has an interesting concept of one jumping out of a toilet. That would have been a good and scary idea. Unfortunately this film has plenty of bad ideas as the script is beyond garbage. Definitely skip this movie.
