Summary: Mattress salesman Brian Weathersby (Dano) finds his plan to adopt a Chinese baby augmented by the arrival of a young woman, Happy (Deschanel), who comes into his workplaces, falls asleep on one of the beds, and starts to affect his life upon waking up. (imdb)
"Director Matt Aselton cites Buñuel as an influence, but he fails to understand the difference between being a surrealist and being a nonsense-ist." - Henry Stewart
The movie was okay. I would have dropped the Zach Galifinakis bit entirely, it didnt have any place in the movie at all. I kind of agree that there was too much an attempt to be off beat and slightly quirky, but Deschanel is incredible, and ultimately portrays a likable human character. however there are too many loose ends, in a movie that was amusing but overall too sloppy.
A bland and kinda pointless movie, in my opinion. i loved the characters, but i hated how all the relationships just appeared. we didn't get to really see them form or grow. it was also really random at parts with the mute galifianakis and the random bits with brian's family. zooey is the best part about this movie, and she performs very well, as usual.
A really strange but warm movie. Needs at least a second watch to fully grasp it and i think it deserves it too. Never bores you. Zooey and Dano are great as always. I really appreciate Dano, building a really strong carrier for himself, coming from The Girl Next Door, acting in front of day Lewis and pulling it off, Little Miss, then this (the ones i have seen), also exec. producing it.. Heck of a carrier dude!
Overly quirky, albeit intermittently engaging, this one seems to be trying just a little too hard to be offbeat. The uniformly excellent cast helps leaven the whimsy a bit.
Loves it! Every character is a character, and I mean that in the best possible way. Original story and a fantastic cast with a unique tone that borders on the surreal with a humor that is as dry as it comes. An adorable Zooey Deschanel gives us a little bit deeper imitation of Zooey than usual and Ed Asner freakin' rules.
And the Academy Award goes to Zach Galifianakis? Quirky for sure, but not as annoyingly quirky as it looks. Each character brings something different and funny to the table. The whole cast shines.
More John Goodman, less Zach Galifianakis would have made this better, if ony slightly. The characters were okay, all fairly likeable on their own but together, eugh. Zooey Deschanel was great as always as was Dano.
Amazing characters. Each fill the screen and fight for your attention as you watch them work through life in their own way. Absolutely beautiful cinematography. Lost points for being mildly pretentious and spending too much time trying to convince the audience that it's an art film, but a quirky indie comedy at the same time. Also, does not bother to explain itself or several key points of the film.
