A rushed script/production mean that this film isn't really as funny as it deserves to be but it works well enough as an updated Carry On style romp with gags and language that are more vulgar but using very similar humour throughout. This does make for an uneven tone but, with more time to polish the script and sort out the comic timing and flawed tempo of some scenes, it could have been a laugh-out-loud film; sadly it's actaully a few giggles film - miles better than Carry On Columbus though!

This film's comedy is just as lukewarm as the TV show it is spawned from. It's more watchable, though, as having a consistent story and characters is a big help. The filmmaking itself is not bad, there's enough talent and budget gone into the equipment, costumes, sets, casting etc. It's just a question of how well you can tolerate pages of misfiring dialogue with the occasional comedic gem. Also pleasing to see a British comedy which doesn't rely on a B-list-star-studded cast to mask its flaws.

Very much from the "Carry On" genre. Has some amusing bits, but won't go down in history as one of the great cinematic works.
