I loved the trailer and hated the movie. Huge bait and switch with most of the really funny parts of the movie in the trailer. The tone was almost the exact opposite with its anti-America message set to a lot of low ball, low-brow political cheap shots. The opening violent scene involving a baby was as mean as the meanness he was supposedly fighting. The ending, a hit piece on American Idol, which deserves to be hit, completely missed the mark and was pointlessly mindless besides.

It started off pretty well, but at about the halfway point, it kind of lost steam. World's Greatest Dad was a more consistent film. I enjoyed the sentiments expressed, but it just didn't have enough momentum to keep it going.

It's obvious what the movie is directing its anger at. If you're a cranky old man, and accept that this movie applies to everyone in some way (like either they hate you or you hate something they hate), then you'll have a great time. They tackle bigger issues about America and whatnot, but then they go after little things like obnoxious movie-goers. The first little while is amazing, and while it gets a little more conventional, it stays good. Excellent satire.

I had an absolute blast with God Bless America. It doesn't feel really original -- there are a bunch of "taking things into your own hands" kind of films -- but it does everything that it sets out to do and only missteps a couple of times. The film is very satisfying, contains more character depth than you'd expect going in, and is really funny. It has a couple of lead actors who should get huge career boosts after they're seen in their roles, and I can't recommend it enough. A must-watch movie.

Not as good as "World's Greatest Dad", which is still one of my favourite comedies. This is the exact wake-up call/love letter people like me need. Just because you're nice doesn't mean you need to stand for bullshit. It isn't a subtle movie but it isn't trying to be subtle either.

It was a bit too preachy and repeated itself but I loved it nonetheless. However, I'm a sucker for "YOU ARE ALL STUPID" films.

If you ignore how hypocritical it is, then you can get a couple of cheap laughs out of it. It may be genius in how ridiculous it makes the whole idea seem, but probably just coincidental.

It will require a very dark sense of humor and at least some cynicism on the part of the viewer to reach full enjoyment. Even then people may not like it. I personally thought it was a grand time.

Bobcat Goldthwait's blackly comic howl against the emptiness and cruelty of modern life features a simple but fertile premise: an embittered businessman turns serial killer, and a misanthropic high-schooler joins him in taking on the hateful, the inane, and the obnoxious. Joel Murray perfectly combines rage and weariness, while Tara Lynne Barr shows amazing spirit and wit. Goldthwait's fine script sags in spots (over-speechifying), but its sincerity, twisted warmth, and anger are not dimmed.

The best part of the movie is when Chloe dies. I hate when good premises are wasted on mediocre movies with awful long monologues. Bobcat cannot make a movie without shitty music. Fart.

Basically Super/Kick Ass/Defendor and any other recent vigilante film you can think of. Except it's much better, because Super was too dark, and Kick Ass wasn't dark enough. Defendor was shit. God Bless American strikes a great balance between the social commentary aspect, and the humour. The musical montage, and the opening scene are highlights

The first 30-40 minutes of this thing are so piercingly, brilliantly satirical that they're actually painful. The movie sags a little bit into conventionality after that, unfortunately, and the climax isn't especially surprising or insightful. It's classic stuff to start, though, and you've gotta hand it to Bobcat, who continues to roar in where few other filmmakers even try to tread. WORLD'S GREATEST DAD was sharper, though.

Network-ish premise with a more brash, soap-box with an ak47, less smart way of getting where it had to go. Strangely, it's audience appeal focuses on mimicking the radical form used by the material its taking fire at.

Ohhhh k. Well as a movie it works fine enough. World's Greatest Dad was far more focused in its subject matter and far more subtle in its handling, which made it a better movie. God Bless America is still funny, entertaining and makes some good points sure to ease the migraine of any misanthrope.

Sure, it can be a bit preachy and american culture, even when being satirized, is pretty nauseating and kind of depressing. I found the two lovable though, and shooting up America out of disgust is pretty appealing. Even if it might be hypocritical as hell -- a melting pot of bad.

I know it has kinda shitty plot. And there isn't any real movie star. But it is awesome. Also the end is a bit off though, goes a bit too serious. Yet it was still awesome.

A really promising idea that gets somewhat foiled by the "quirky indie"-approach and sloppy finale. That said; Joel Murray delivers some great spot-on rants on American pop culture and the general state of things.
