We have running in Finnish TV at the moment a document about the life of the modern Russia. In Golem you can see the same in 1993. Otherwise (the mystery story of) the movie was actually some kind of allegory for Soviet past (there was no God, just idols of their leaders to bow to). Story went back to the Stalin and the exile of all Judes (not out of the country but hidden into deepest Siberia). Unfortunately the executing of the story was very slow and unnecessarily extented.
