The production occasionally lacks and it's paced like a runaway train, but it's very entertaining and nearly every role is well-cast.

I appreciated that the word "obsequious" shows up twice in this movie given that I learned the word by reading Gormenghast.

Sadly ignored when released, this was pretty darn good actually.

The scope of the production is impressive, but plot is most definitely a game of two halves; while Steerpike Ascendent is a fascinating look at ruthless ambition, the second two hours are left on the not-particularly-capable shoulders of Titus, and the two actors tasked with bringing him to life can't quite pull it off. Meyers overacts horribly (perhaps as expected), but the real prizes here go to Sessions and Lee, who are perfect in their respective roles.
