Summary: Gouri (Kavya Madhavan) & Shankaran (Munna) were friends & lovers from childhood. Shankaran's orthodox Brahmin family, who were snake worshipers, had a custom where the eldest daughter-in-law would practice celibacy & become the "snake mother", a deity. Despite knowing that she would be next in line after Shankaran's mother's demise, Gouri marries Shankaran, but their joy is short-lived when shortly afterwards, Shankaran's mother, the current "snake mother", dies, forcing Gouri to fill the shoes.
