It seems to be primarily a showcase for Negrete, a sort of hispanic Dean Martin with rakish charm, macho (but not too macho) swagger, and a good set of pipes. It's utterly predictable and the sets are kind of cheap, but it's passable as light entertainment. It's just so out of place in the Bunuel ouevre, then again so are a lot of his other Mexican director-for-hire films. This is probably the least interesting of them, however, with only one or two brief glimpses of the Bunuel we know and love.
