I don't know how it compares to the book (which I haven't read), but I thought this was well shot and acted, and the characterisations are pretty great. Lean isn't really able to keep the Estella plotline very interesting once Pip grows up, the way the fire occurs is stupid, and there's a level of coincidence that for all I know may work in a long book but didn't really convince me in a comparatively shorter movie, but for the most part I enjoyed the film.

David Lean shows early on that he is the master of the long shot and the landscape. Even though most of the scenes here are interior (and beautifully shot interior at that) the exterior scenes stick out as especially incredible.

A faithful adaptation of the Dickens classic. Raw and gritty in parts this has great cinematography for its time and is packed full of great performances from some of the best British actors of the day.

Solid piece of storytelling with a lot of great supporting performances, my personal favorite being Francis Sullivan as Jaggers. Nice cinematography throughout as well.
