It really is no wonder when you take Batman and Superman out of the mix, it seemsthe rest of DC Comics they just cannot get to work on the big screen. Marvel has seemed to rule them, with countless successful adaptations.

My Thoughts: "I will admit this isn't by far the most exciting, thrilling, or even well made comic action hero flick I have seen. I was a little disappointed with the lack of action and how bland the storyline was. I am not familiar with the comic or even the story of this action hero, but I assumed it would be great considering most comic flicks are and the film had Ryan Reynolds in it, who I love. I just didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. But I do think Ryan Reynolds did a great job

So disappointing. I had high hopes for a real space epic, but this film is a wash. The writing is awful, to start. The dialogue is just horrid. Not to mention that Ryan Reynolds was just annoying to me and Blake Lively was absolutely lifeless.

I didn't expect to love this movie or anything, but it was significantly worse than I ever expected. This film houses everything that is wrong with superhero movies. The 7 screenwriters managed to smooth every rough edge so that the audience can see every plot turn coming 30 seconds in advance. The film is trying to be lighthearted and fun, because frankly it's for children, but also DEADLY SERIOUS, because that's in vogue at the moment. This translates into patchwork writing with no momentum.

We need more actors like Reynolds cast in these superhero roles, and I have to admit the whole idea of magic rings based on an entire emotional colour spectrum that is said to be in the comics, and appears here partly, tickled my fancies. The film itself is a generic superhero origin story with barely a villain to defeat at the end and tedious moralising. Also as film critic Armond White has pointed out, Kilowog is racial stereotype that dumbfoundingly never raised any questions in production.

A total mess, among others problems there was the ridiculous decision to make a CGI green lantern suit, rather than just, I dont know, make a costume? Despite its massive budget the CGI mostly looks awful, and urgh, long story short this could be the worst superhero film since batman and robin. Watchable at very best.

I don't think I've EVER felt this bored while watching a superhero movie. Even the action scenes in the movie were relatively dull, and the whole movie felt rushed in many areas before anything got interesting. It'd be a lot better if the movie focused on the intergalactic aspects of the green lanterns instead of lameass midgar shenanigans.

Millions of years before the Earth was formed, a group of beings called the Guardians of the Universe used the green essence of willpower to create an intergalactic police force called the Green Lantern Corps. They split the universe into 3,600 sectors, with one Green Lantern per sector. One such Green Lantern, Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison) of Sector 2814, defeated the fear-essence being Parallax (voiced by Clancy Brown) and imprisoned him in the Lost Sector on the ruined planet Ryut. For my money this was about as entertaining as 'Thor,' and a slight improvement over 'Captain America.' The universe of this comic obviously feels far too great to capture in a mere two hours. Where to even begin? I don't know because I've never read an issue. That's probably why the film worked for me. It was a serviceable, special effects-filled entertainment with acceptable performances and a story that simply needed room to breathe. I may eat my words later, but this gets a pass.

I remember thinking it looked laughably bad from the trailers or like my buddy Dennis said, "like the Mask but funny unintentionally". The special effects looked blurry, the dialogue was laughable, the pacing was alright. At one point the hero manifests a race car to catch a crashing helicopter. Dennis, you were right.

Starts out with a queer math lesson, in which we learn that the universe is divided into 3600 quadrants. Furthermore, it is governed by two opposite forces: Will and, erhm, fear. If all that sounds rather underwhelming, it is in perfect thread with the rest of the movie, that focuses on the 'Top Gun' quadrant, as the dude from 'Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place' finds a ring that belongs in 'The Neverending Story' and battles an organic version of 'Unicron'. Mnyes.. quite...

I'm not sure why this got panned so widely. I'm not a huge Lantern fan so I can't attest to how close to the comics the film was, but from what I know of Hal Jordan I thought Reynolds did a good job in portraying the character's vulnerability. I also really liked Mark Strong as Sinestro, and he is definitely believable as the villain in another film. If there's anything that needed improvement it's that we needed to know more about Abin Sur and his importance to the Green Lantern corps.

There are some things that should never be tried as live-action films. Most comic books fall into this category, and the Green Lantern is a great example. Most of the Green Lantern looks like a cartoon, and the writing and acting is about on-par with standard Saturday morning fare. Just watch the Bruce Timm animated series instead.

God what a bland movie. Ryan Reynolds is either a Tony Stark ripoff or being a piece of cardboard. I have many problems with the film and I don't feel like listing them all. The only character that I felt had any sort of dramatic conflict within themselves was Mark Strong's pink/purple guy. He had more going on with him than Hal Borden. (geddit? BOR cause the character is boring.) But yeah lame movie.
