While completely wasting a stellar cast, Green Zone is a so-so military/political thriller with shoddy attempts for character motivation. The action was fine, the pace was fine, the performances were fine- everything screamed mediocrity. Maybe it was too soon after the recent onslaught of media about this topic, but there were no WMD? Yeah ok, got it. Move on.

I held my fingers so much for main character and hated bad guys so much. Nice action. Not pleasurable ending, but movie based on real conflict can't much alter reality.

A fast-paced action film in which Damon, an actor I'm not normally particularly fond of, is very convincing. If you like Greengrass' style or enjoyed the frenetic chaos of the military scenes in 'Black Hawk Down', you'll probably be entertained enough to forgive the, regrettably, mediocre script.

While the Green Zone is very well shot and features an impressive cast the entire point of the film seems like a mute point at this stage. It's tremendously late and terribly simplistic, though correct. As an action vehicle it doesn't work because it's got a dividing political message and as a film with a political point it doesn't work either because it's too little too late. Still, it's a fun if misguided action-flick.

Wasn't expecting much but I thought it would have been alot better than what I watched. The plot seems to 'think' it's better than it actually is. it was obvious in the first 5 minutes where it was going. Seems to be very 'Anti Bush' & i'm sure a few idiots would buy into everything the film try's to hammer into your head. Won't be watching it again.

20100326 - Really poor effort at an "intelligent"/entertaining film about Iraq. Boring shaky-cam cinematography, weak acting, weak script, weak story, and just not very good. Should have watched Generation Kill again instead.

Greengrass' up-close portrayal of Shock & Awe and the occupation's effect on Iraqi civilians is the draw here. The plot of American politicking is dull (a charge that could honestly be leveled at the actual events, though, in more ways than one), sapping the vitality of the picture much as in Bourne 3. It's wish fulfillment territory with Damon's character and his direct revelation of wrongdoing, but where Greengrass can wrest control away from the Helgeland script, it's truly affecting.

The jittery, scattershot camerawork of Greengrass's longtime cinematographer, Barry Ackroyd, was used far more coherently in Kathryn Bigelow's Oscar-winning "The Hurt Locker," and the constant blurry close-ups of computer screens and street-level scrums lose their power with each successive cut.

Fast paced, well acted, and with that great Greengrass-style cinematography the movie keeps you perfectly entertained for two hours but despite having an intelligent script at the end the movie suffers from the fact that it doesn't tell or reveal anything new or shocking.

Green Zone's treated with intrigue and suspense, playing out like a cramped, explosive version of State of Play. Unlike State of Play, however, there is nothing to the characters: they exist to serve the premise, and at the end of your viewing, you don’t care how many of them die. [ Full Review]

Green Zone is a mixed bag. The action sequences are nothing we haven't seen before and aren't really all that exciting. The characters are one dimensional. But the strength of the film lies in its summing up of the failings by the media and US political establishment in the Iraq invasion. When Damon figures out the WMD justification is baloney, the reaction of the Iraqi characters is a justified "so what? How does that help us now?" There the film suggests there are no easy solutions to Iraq.

A natural follow-up to United 93 for Greengrass, though this time the story is fictionalized. It stumbles for the same reason U93 succeeds: the ending is inevitable. In that film it instilled a sense of dread, but here it removes the mystery. Still, preachy as it may be, its moral moments are emotionally potent and the action is taut and suspenseful. Great cast, too. It outlines the problems in Iraq nicely -- no wonder it bombed at box office. "Whatever you want here, I want more than you want."

Not merely a picaresque, but an almost quaintly Candide-ish parable, in which we follow a naïve adventurer's sojourn through a corrupt world. The movie arrived a few years too late, and is too devoted to Greengrass's simple-minded universe of (shall we say?) "action (pseudo-)realism," to really constitute any kind of effective critique, yet is still superior to and more interesting than Bigelow's abominable Oscar-winning effort. Seems to build up to the climactic title card: "Directed by P.G."

Crappy script, but well shot overall. Matt Damon and the rest of the American cast get out-acted by a one-legged Iraqi guy I've never heard. Actually Matt Damon still seems to playing a slightly older and more tired Jason Bourne, only this time his surroundings look a little more like the set and cast of Black Hawk Down. Despite the weaknesses, however, the film delivers a good level of intensity. Well shot and well paced.
