You've decided to remember Gunfight at the O.K. Corral for later. You can see all your remembered films here.
Summary: After the long career of lawman that made him a legend, Wyatt Earp deciedes to quit and join his brothers in Tombstone, Arizona. There he would see them in feud with Clantons, local clan of thugs and cattle thieves. When the showdown becomes inevitable, the help will come from Doc Holliday, terminally-ill gambler who happens to be another Wild West legend. (imdb)

The friendship feels phony, but the story moves along briskly. Most of the melodrama is effective and the actual fight, well, Earp is the only one who does anything, but it was well done; I liked how the horses kept trying to avoid the line of fire, lol. You know, I'd probably think more of this if "Tombstone" wasn't so damn awesome. Also, why can't women play poker in the main room?

Not even close to My Darling Clementine, but beautifully shot with one of the all-time great supporting casts - Jack Elam, Olive Carey, Dennis Hopper, Deforest Kelley, etc.

This is a fun western, with a lot of typical 50's things which make it more fun, like the theme song that narrates Wyatt Earp's feelings. The pairing of Douglas and Lancaster isn't quite as exciting as I hoped it would be. Burt really doesn't show the skills he has, so Kirk blows him out of the water as the devious Doc Holliday. Burt's probably the better actor too. I especially loved the small Dennis Hopper role. Only Dennis would turn in something so natural as a western character actor.

A larger, more ambitious western than some of the other ones by John Sturges, but also less interesting. It has a good flow but it's pretty heavy on the melodrama, and the smaller scale of films like Bad Day... and Last Train... somehow made them more effective. I also have a serious problem with Burt Lancaster, whose acting has never seemed convincing to me. Watch for a very young Dennis Hopper in a small role, though.

This is a full-blooded, classic Hollywood Western. Leon Uris gets the history all wrong, but never mind! Once the Earps and Doc Holliday begin their long walk toward the OK corral, they stride right into Hollywood history, as American icons.

It's a good, entertaining western, though nothing special. The script is solid, the direction is solid, the final fight scene is really darn good, Kirk Douglas is awesome (reminded me strangely of Clark Gable in Gone with the Wind - it might just be the moustache) and I enjoyed it well enough even if it did have the occasional fault (and could probably have done with a tad of trimming).

One of the key creative people (I forget whom) stated afterwards that, regardless of what womenfolk show up or how they look, the real romance in this movie is between Earp and Holliday. I buy this, too. Most of the movie is about this most unlikely friendship, but since our heroes will not flinch at facing bullets but will avoid cries of "fag" at any cost, Fleming and Van Fleet have to show up and conduct most unconvincing affairs -- especially the former. Still a good Western with a fine score
