Summary: Raghuraman (Mohanlal), who loses his family in a politically instigated Hindu-Muslim riot, takes refuge in an ashram, consumed with the idea of vengeance. On the verge of taking revenge, he is shown the error of his ways by a disciple of the ashram, in the form of a vision Raghuraman has. In his vision, he is in a land occupied by blind people. Raghuraman tries to give them the gift of eyesight, but suffers in the process. When he awakens, Raghuraman realizes how the vision related to reality. (by iceblox)

While at times draggy, 'Guru', the one & only Oscar-nominated Malayalam film so far, is a socially relevant film trying to handle a socially sensitive subject - blind adherence to religions resulting in losing sight of God. Rajiv Anchal's conceptualization is clever, with perfectly set similes relating Raghuraman's visions to his realities. While the special effects were juvenile, the costumes & makeup were commendable & right up there with any similar Hollywood endeavor.
