Pretentious movies tend to be my cup of tea, though, I do think that a good movie needs to contain more than just pretentious intentions.

Obviously the deep religious overtones ring throughout the entire picture, and while that usually hinders my final thoughts on a film it did quite the opposite here. Godard's visual style is as ever entertaining and thought provoking, somehow managing to fit three stories into one and in typical Godard fashion he does so intriguingly well and manages to keep the viewer enthralled even if they are not religious themselves.

The relationship between Mary and Joseph was interesting and had some heart to it, but the rest of it was cold, incomprehensible claptrap. I had to watch a couple of scenes again to figure out what was going on. And I still don't know who Binoche was supposed to be. Or why the music kept cutting out. Or what the hell people were talking about half the time. A lot of the dialogue in sounded like pseudo-intellectual non-sequitur to me. Worst of all, Godard isn't having any fun with it.
