i thank woody allen for this great movie and for introducing me to the poetry of e.e. cummings

Simply excellent. I rewatched this recently and forgot how deft and engaging the screenplay was.

I can't tell if this movie is making fun of these characters, but I don't think it is and that's a problem for me. They're ALL insecure; trying to impress each other with their knowledge of Bach and organic form. *rolls eyes* The only segments I liked were Allen's, but then I've always been more of a sucker for his zany one-liner antics than his more serious fare.

allen pretty much perfects his style with this one, making a daring move by shooting a movie that explores the intimate and complex relationships of women. Caine is simply stellar, while the female cast does a uniformly good job in recreating the sister dynamics. there's less of woody in this one compared to his other works, but the substance is not lacking.

One of Allen's absolute best.
