Although there is chemistry between the Johnson and Rourke the story isn't coherent enough nor the script punchy enough to keep this mess afloat.

Actually worth watching for the chemistry between Rourke and Johnson, which ranks among the best buddy pairings I've seen. It's not hard to see why this bombed commercially; the dystopian plot elements are too weird for the action crowd but too half-assed/not weird enough for the cultists. I think it wants to say something about dying masculine archetypes but the script didn't really run deep enough. Anyway, nowhere near as bad as it looks.

Enjoyable. Really bad but it's so bad that it's good. Mickey Rourke actually apologized for doing this film years later. How can you not love that?

This failed attempt at appearently making the manliest film ever made unadvertedly results in a fascinating study that reveals, amongst other things, a homosexual undercurrent in its creators that they may or may not be aware of. You really only have to see the first 15 minutes to suspect these people had some serious daddy issues. By the end you can pretty much confirm it.

I shouldn't enjoy this film because it is stupid and mostly a rip-off of Butch and Sundance, but the easy going chemistry between the leads helped me enjoy it a bit more than it deserved.

I guess those responsible felt "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" wasn't good enough - That it lacked the twinge of badassery this was supposed to provide. Well, I guess I'd feel the same if I were 6 years old. Just a stupid fucking movie. I laughed when I saw the leather jacket posse that set off caps anytime, anywhere without repercussion. And why did they always have to go everywhere abreast? Fuck the Baldwins. All of them. They have absolutely no talent.

A lot more enjoyable than it ought to be, mostly because it's campy and the leads are both enjoyable and believable (which is quite a feat). I just kept thinking that Don Johnson looks like he's in disguise as Kevin Costner in this, and Rourke looks really freshly punched, which I guess works for his character.
