Vet Brit helmer Gilbert delivers a suitably chilling adaptation, co-exec-produced by Francis Ford Coppola, of James Herbert's novel. He handles the trippy material with a _Dead of Night_-styled flair, and while the effects are excellent, they refreshingly serve rather than overwhelm the twisty storyline.
