The plot is confusing and often boring. The jazz/soul hybrid soundtrack is somewhat immersion breaking, as is Carano's stilted dialog--she doesn't seem to know how to move her face, but you couldn't say that about her legs. When she kicks ass, she certainly kicks ass, that's the one upside of a professional MMA fighter as your lead actress. But as a spy movie, or just a movie in general, this is a boring mess.

Not great. Bit of a shame really, because I think it had the potential to be much better. Gina Carano gives a convincing performance even when not kicking ass, but her character, along with everyone else's, and the story are left painfully underdeveloped. The tangled web of intrigue isn't all that tangled, and the ending feels like a bit of a cop out. As a throw-away action film there's too much thinking, for a thinky thriller it's too slow. Not terrible, but must try harder.

Soderbergh's direction and Carano's convincing physicality help to overcome a second rate action/thriller script. The action sequences are truly the highlight here, as Carano's ability allows for a visceral feel without resorting to frenetic editing.

The fight scenes posses a stark yet lyrical brutality to them that really makes them engaging, but most everything inbetween lacks a forward feeling that would have held it all together. Interesting attempt at a juxtaposition of differing tones, but it doesn't quite work.

Decent enough action thriller with something rather unusual: a female action lead that actually looks tough. Gina Carano, an MMA fighter, stars in this spy-thriller, that has moments of impressively choreographed action (not the NON-STOP ACTION THRILL RIDE it's billed as). The plot isn't insultingly stupid, a welcome change from your average low-budget action flick, and this packs an impressive supporting cast. All in all, a solid low-budget alternative action flick.

Enjoyment of this movie depends on accepting that the plot is just there to keep things moving along while the filmmaker conducts some aesthetic experiments largely focused around the question of how best to showcase the remarkable physical capabilities of his lead actress. The fight and action scenes are indeed striking and very well done. That Soderbergh has been so efficiently and energetically prolific is admirable, even though it seems it may have come at the price of unfulfilled potential.

The action scenes were decent, some cool set pieces, not a bunch of cuts like a Bourne movie, however every other aspect of the movie reminded me of Bourne. The sort of road trip aspect with Scott, a lot of it taking place overseas, the secret agent that the company turns against. As for the plot, it was very uninvolving, forgettable, confusing, and for the most part, boring. The lead actress wasn't that great at acting, but she carried out the fight scenes well enough.

Boring as hell, tries embarrassingly hard to be stylish, too many color filters, poor choices of music, idiotic story, and crappy acting. The lead actress is unable to carry a scene, let alone a film, due to her total lack of charisma. Looks like a student film from the 80s from start to finish, including the action parts. While the fights are the best parts of the film, they are by no means 'good' by modern standards. Don't watch.

Finally, a spy thriller where you can actually follow the action! Apart from that and a stellar cast, Haywire doesn't have thát many positive things going for it. The story is basic as hell and the second half isn't that exciting. Still, I had fun during the first, and I always enjoy that cartload of 'cool' that Soderbergh manages to inject into most of his projects.

A large excellent cast, great locations and interesting fight sequences help make an otherwise poorly told story more interesting. Most scenes, taken individually, are entertaining enough, but the timeline is fragmented and broken. Gina Carano convincingly plays the bad girl, but her delivery is mostly stiff and lifeless, quite unlike her excellent fighting performance. It seems that poor story telling, lazy direction and possibly bad editing has translated into a lot of lost potential.

Soderbergh's annoying obsession with transforming the main story into flashbacks once again is on show here. His actors are also a bit flat, although Banderas does well with little. There is a sort of 'paint-by-numbers' approach to the spy plot which is irritating. Still, it offered a slightly different emphasis to its fights and chases, which was refreshing.

Really disappointed. I expected good things considering the talent involved. The movie gets props for trying to do something a tad different than the normal action-thriller, but I felt like a lot of it didn't work. The chases were lame, I didn't feel the music fit the atmosphere and even the MMA type fight scenes didn't have the energy they should have. Mediocre acting and script as well. It had the makings of something amazing buried in there but failed.

The direction of Steven Soderbergh is very apparent in this film. The shots are all incredible. It's just a really great movie. The action scenes are some of the best I've seen in a long, long time. Gina Carano is an actress I wasn't familiar with but I will be watching her career closely from now on. She takes no prisoners in this film and I love it! The rest of the cast is awesome. Douglas, Paxton, Banderas, McGregor, Tatum and Fassbender all make this movie awesome.

This is one laidback action flick. Carano has the presence and instincts of a genuine star, and Soderbergh has crafted a zippy, fast-paced vehicle for her. The problem is that the whole thing's just so light and inconsequential. It's fun to watch Gina beat the hell out of virtually every male in the cast in what looks like real time, but there's not much in the way of suspense to go along with all the girl-on-guy butt-kicking.

Contains a fair amount of beautifully staged set pieces. I especially liked the lack of music during the fight scenes and its effective use elsewhere. Unfortunately, while the acting is generally solid, the characters are very poorly drawn and the story is just not very interesting and way more convoluted than it has to be.

Fantastic action sequences let down by a overly convoluted plot - which takes the front seat in the third act and subjects us to a lot of exposition, slowing the whole film down. Gina Carano is largely helped up by a good supporting cast, and several of the action sequences are great - with a good score reminiscent of an old espionage thriller. The pacing is also really good - up until that dreadful third act where everything goes out the window to explain the plot. A missed opportunity.

Soderbergh has become the Ben Webster of contemporary film making, playing his own jazzy variations over countless action clichés with this one. The music and action flows mercilessly and counters the utter self-awareness which would otherwise drag on. Few will like this, though it is one of the more interesting, recent stylistic experiments.

I didn't go into 'Haywire' expecting a master class in acting, but the first scene still does a great job of setting the bar as low as possible. Yet, the acting isn't the worst part of the film. To keep the mystery a mystery, you're told nothing of use until the final minutes. No misdirection. No hints. Just random information that doesn't mean a thing until the end. The reason to watch are the fight scenes, but even with the short run-time, it's not worth waiting for the plot to show up.

Walter Chaw, brilliant as always: "A spy/assassin movie broken down into its component parts and reconstructed around an absolute kickass, sexy heroine who is betrayed by every man not her father and so kills everyone. She's never the victim, never the product of a broken home or a lousy upbringing, she's just very good at what she does--yet still seen as expendable by her peers and bosses."

Top badass moment? Every time Gina Carano hit anyone. She certain looks like she could inflict some serious damage, unlike many of the more girly Hollywood heroes we get to see; (yes, I'm looking at you Wonder Woman). So this film. Mallory has row with boyfriend in restaurant about a messed up holiday in Barcelona, then for some reason goes to Dublin to beat up Hollywood A-listers, before ending up in Majorca looking like Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

A thoroughly mediocre presentation by Soderbergh with most of the film possessing the atmosphere and pacing of an episode of Red Shoe Diaries. Substitute soft core porn with a buff Carano kicking ass. The plot is just background noise since everything is an excuse to set up fight scenes in cool european locales. Carano is convincing enough which isn't surprising considering her physical presence and MMA pedigree. At least it's more believable than generic wallflower actress #199 in that role.

I'm surprised how contentious this seems to be. I mean, what was anybody expecting? It's sleek and modern in that uniquely Soderbergh-ian way, has some excellent action, and though Carano isn't anybody's idea of an actor, she's not tasked with any heavy lifting (though given how much she gets tossed around, the elastic on her bras probably got worn to nothing). And at 90 minutes it's not exactly overstuffed. jodamico's "Ocean's meets Le Samourai" take is spot-on.

A sparce thriller, with impressive moments & significant flaws. The first thing you notice about Carano, apart from the fact that she could clearly hurt you badly, is that she's not anywhere near as good an actor as she is fighter! Soderburgh steals the irritating music from his "Oceans" movies for much of the film, but thankfully most of the action is not scored, & is all the better for it. The conspiracy plot is effective, but holds no surprises, & Tatum shits all over every scene he's in.

This awful boring movie, could have been a whole lot better if the director/producer had chosen a different approach to the film music score. One could say HAYWIRE is but a slight variation on the "rogue spy" storyline we've seen before, and in some ways, one would be right. But HAYWIRE is exceptional in so many ways: Steven Soderbergh's finely tuned direction, the thrilling action, David Holmes' great score, and Gina Carano--incredibly beautiful, tough, and self-assured; a truly powerful heroine. A fantastic piece of entertaining fun. The real treats here are the formal choices Soderbergh makes, elevating a mildly interesting script to something much more engaging. I could just watch the chase in Barcelona or the escape in Dublin over and over again--great visual film-making, with an inventive camera and editing that matches the pace of the moment. Carano is attractive, can fight and act (passably at least). However, she lacks the charisma of a great movie star, imo, which didn't give the film the umph it needed. Soderbergh decisions to forgo a film score in some of the fight sequences as well as using more natural sound effects didn't help.(The use of video (HD?) didn't work well, too, imo--although it looked goodl.) Haywire is a good movie, but it's very dull after its opening sequence, up until about the half hour mark, and it's almost certainly going to put off a lot of viewers because of this. Is the payoff worth sitting through a pointless and convoluted plot? I'm not necessarily sure it is. The fight scenes are very impressive, but when a good third of the film's running time is essentially rendered useless, I'm not sure if it's a film that's worth the entire time it would take to watch it.

Starts with a bang, and initially presents as a fun popcorn movie, before becoming bogged down in an endlessly tedious (and ultimately confusing) espionage plot which all seems like much ado when the action scenes are where the movie's heart is. There are maybe two decent fights in 'Haywire,' a disappointingly formal concoction from Steven Soderbergh who turns up the snooze factor by delicately extracting the grittiness from the project and sanding down the violence. Mixing 'Salt' with the vibe of 'Ocean's 11,' the plot is simultaneously convoluted and simplistic. The dynamite cast is wasted. Throughout the flick, I felt that the sound hampered my enjoyment and didn't feel fitting for what was happening on-screen; action sounds and background noise completely removed in favor of unfitting music is a crime in any movie. Sold as a high octane actioner, it's really a taught spy thriller. Then again, with Soderbergh at the helm, we probably should have known better. The movie has an admirable style and a handful of truly great scenes. Carano shines in the lead. It's amazing how well she's able to hold her own opposite these world class co-stars. The plot opts for "realism" over a straight-forward narrative, and while at times it's a subtlety that works wonders, other times it's a bit dry. Still, a very fine film.

Damn, that Carano/Fassbender fight scene might be my favorite fight scene in a year or more! Totally kick ass. The movie also has a hilarious final line.

A mechanic thriller by Soderbergh, full of his well-known tricks -- you know, lots of jazzy clips about betrayals and people talking about betrayals --, but Gina is here to offer something more: a physical persona that easily takes care of everyone who's trying to get her with some MMA moves.

Fun action movie. The lead character is great and the realism with the gun play made it a decent movie.

It's OK but not a must watch. Gina Carano was enjoyable, but I think she's better in Deadpool. It's been a couple of months since I watched it and I've already almost completely forgotten it.

The definition of a one-note, excellent film. Both is better than neither, but naturally I'd rather have the latter without the former. Gina Carano is thankfully a highlight, and holds her own against the series of Supermen.
