A lightweight yet lyrical coming-of-age film which exists as much to celebrate the local Lancashire landscape and traditions as to deliver any kind of message. Although the story is simplistic in the extreme, Michael Sheen gives a great performance as a kind of childlike adult, and along with a good supporting cast, sweet music and beautiful landscape cinematography, it combines to create some memorable moments. If you liked this, see Soulboy, the two films have much in common.
