I forgot about this movie until south park parodied it. I went to the store the next day and bought it cause I remembered how much I loved this movie when I was younger. Some of the cartoon stories are simple and great, some are just rediculous. The last main story was probably my least favorite. This movie also has one of the best soundtracks out there. So much wonderful 80s metal.

Spanning many movie genres, planets, and timeframes, heavy metal was one of the manliest movies i've ever seen. even though the last portion has a female heroine. it's full of boobs, gore, crazy animation and stoner aliens. the thought of an orb containing the sum of all evil is a pretty scary thought, too. watching how it wreaks havoc around the galaxy is cool.

A couple good stories hemmed in by terrible crap. Awkward animation all around. On the other hand, lots of unexpected celebrity cameos and a couple of great pop songs liven things up.

Strange, crazy... and disconnected.

I remember gettin' high to this movie!!! Good music and interesting series of stories. When it came out, there was nothing else like it. WARNING: May have passed its 'best before' date. High score merely reflects nostalgia bias.

It's one of the few modern (you have to remember that at first all animated movies were aimed at adults (think private snafu) ) animated movies that were created primarily for adults. As for the movie, I have to say the soundtrack is generally pretty good. All of the segments are based on the "heavy metal" magazine, and in my opinions are hit-or-miss. I personally only really liked the "captain stern" segment, all others were in my opinion pretty forgettable.

If you just feel like you really need to see some animated breasts then this is the movie for you. I can see a a lot of people hating this movie because the animation is so incredibly dated, and the story lacks in a lot of places. Let me just say this to those haters.....weed helps.

Like a doodle on the Trapper-Keeper of a fat, smelly nerd brought to life. If you like tits, swords, and women with tits holding swords, this is the movie for you.

It's so bad that it's... bad, actually. Imagine every sci-fi/fantasy schlock cliche in five separate completely unrelated short stories. Imagined it? You just watched Heavy Metal. Soundtrack was pretty good though.

Great music, awesome animation, but really boring, though I did kind of like the story Den with John Candy!

It was not what I had hoped for. Also it kinda sucked.

Passable, but hardly lives up to its nostalgic rep. A little heavy on the rotoscoping, and the scenes Elmer Bernstein scored are much preferable to the distracting rock music that fills out the rest. I guess I missed the boat, having seen it in my twenties rather than as a sexually overenthusiastic, hormonal teenager.

Great animation and a mixed array of segments.

I make a point to watch this movie several times a year. The dialogue is classic!

A work of sublime vulgarity.

Pretty rough and crude without being amusing. Worth seeing as an enigma, perhaps, just don't expect to get anything out of it.

Good soundtrack, funny in parts but when I finished I simply couldn't find the point of it. I guess I was looking for something more but as a 2 hour music video it's pretty impressive. Great cast. I suppose if wanton violence, huge animated breasts and heavy metal really turns your crank then check this out. It's just like it sounds, however, so if that doesn't sound like "your bag" you can miss this for sure.

The name makes no sense because they only have about 30 seconds of a Black Sabbath song ("The Mob Rules"), but the film is actually not half bad. All the stories are highly entertaining and very mind-numbing, also features lots of cartoon sex, but they don't actually get down and dirty (don't worry), violence, and weirdness. Guess what? They have guitars on other planets! Far out, dude!

Quite psychedelic and trippy. Bare in mind that this movie is an anthology movie with a thinly veiled attempt at tying them together through the use of a mystical object. Also, even though this is a cartoon, it is decidedly not for kids. There is plenty of drug use, language and a little tiny bit of copious nudity and sex.

Episodic animated feature is uneven, but great fun on a mindless, adolescent level. Sexy sci-fi stories and vignettes in a variety of graphic styles, many set to rock music. My favorites: "Harry Canyon" and "Den".

Kinda funky like run down Sabbath posters.
