First and foremost a children's movie, so the message against tyranny is well-meaning but rather blunt. In general it's formulaic but entertaining enough, with lovely (though cheap) sets and charming songs written by Ray himself. The major weak point is a 20-minute long scene in the first act, which doesn't even have Goopy and Bagha in it. It seems to me like this would try the patience of any child. And kids may be amused by Bagha's bug-eyed expressions, but I thought they were pretty stupid.
