Summary: A crippled mailman is in love with a maid who lives in the same building he does in one of the city's poor neighborhoods. She, however, is in love with a wealthy, handsome young man. Desperate to win her love, he begins to intercept love letters they send to each other and replaces them with his own messages, which each thinks is from the other. His plan seems to be succeeding, but then something happens that bring tragic results to them all. (imdb)

I found somethings really curious about this forgotten film by Jessner, who was quite famous who his work in theater at the time. First, the story is about working-class people. Rich ones are ugly and mean. Second, the woman character is strong and ruling, the man has no self-esteem, is very sensitive and weak. Unusual details for cinema of that era. Acting feels a bit over the top, even for the silent movie, but composition of scenes is simply great. Impressive.
