A good film.. but too much talking that it sometimes becomes hard to keep up. The difficulty of being a modern woman struggling between loves in professional and personal lives is well played.

The dialogue is amusing, sure, but the actual story is pathetic. The strong heroine turns into a simpering mess at the end and though he's charming, Grant's character isn't likeable. I really thought I was going to like this, but it's kinda awful.

Don't think I've heard a screenplay this fast and witty. Cary Grant is wonderful. Howard Hawks will surely become one of my favorite directors.

If I had to name the thing I enjoy most when watching an older, English-speaking movie it's when the dialogue gets fast and snappy. Well, this one is the perfect example as there is no slow scene and most of the time you get the entire room talking simultaneously; it's incredibly intoxicating especially through the addition of its cynical undertone. I had my fair share of laughs as it is on of the greatest comedies I saw so far.

Quite funny. The quick dialogue did an excellent job canceling out the slowly edited pace of the film, creating a very balanced feel for me. Not many earlier films are able to be nearly as funny as this one.

What George Lucas did for special effects, Howard Hawks did for dialogue in this newspaper drama. A great re-imagining of the taming of the shrew, this comedy shows what can be done with a few sets, a couple telephones, and Cary Grant giving the best performance of the quick-talking newspaper editor character ever put to celluloid. 85%

An absolutely hilarious film. Cary Grant is slowly becoming one of my favorite comedic actors. The entire is so charming, and the dialogue is extremely witty and clever. From start to finish it is fast paced, straight to the point, and laugh out loud hilarious. If you find comedies from the forties and fifties to be unfunny, then I highly recommend this.

My first Howard Hawks and quite a surprise, though not in a good way. I longed for something more; It struck me as aesthetically cold and surprisingly tedious but that's usually the case with play adaptations (==> "A Streetcar Named Desire"). It's well acted but those people wouldn't shut up for a single second (watch now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAMfCG6nn1w). I'll see it again one day, though this time I'll be prepared.

The dialogues in tune are the big charm of this pleasant comedy. Cary Grant, with his usual charisma. But the film is not as perfect as many say. The narrative is too fast, and the humour, perhaps a little dated.

Cary Grant is once again great, as is everyone else in the cast. Love the fast pace and the great dialogue. It's really funny too. I really don't know what's wrong with you if you don't like this movie but as Eric Rohmer said of Hawks: If one does not love the films of Howard Hawks, one cannot love cinema.

Some wonderful scenes of sparkling dialogue and classic performances do not quite redeem the structureless chaos of the script and its creaky and dated devices. The story certainly moves but there is no sustained emotion or thought. The rhythms feel sitcom-y and the characters seemtoo flat and distorted.

A whirlwind of a movie, this has the most rapid-fire dialog I've ever heard. I need to watch it again just to pick up the lines I missed. The entire cast perform the snappy screenplay with perfect comic timing, especially Grant and Russell. While I can't say the movie totally blew me away, I definitely appreciated how well its humor holds up after so long. The biggest praise I can give it is that it never insulted my intelligence. Today's "comedies" could learn a thing or two from this.
