How many other actors completely own a genre of film the way that Robert Mitchum does film noir? It's like he was born into a delivery room filled with murky shadows and cigarette smoke, the doctor instructing the nurse to slap his bottom by growling, "Give him what's comin' to him, and make him sing when you do it." Besides Mitchum, there's a great performance by Vincent Price as a foppish, self-enamored movie actor who discovers his inner adventurer when he's drawn into the plot.

Messy blend of film noir and romantic comedy, with a bit of farcical adventure. Some terrific dialogue and some terrific moments, but waaaay too long, a little too complicated and quite unfocused. The third act was slapped together, and it shows. The noir elements are mostly okay and the comedy elements are mostly okay, but they just don't gel. Price is funny and Mitchum is Mitchum, it's just that the film is too confused about what it wants to be, and doesn't even have that great of a story.

Okay, no doubt about it, that was pretty loopy! The first half starts out normally enough, but once Vince shows up it gets weirder and weirder. By the last quarter it's clear that everybody's been hitting the sauce bigtime. The whole cast is good, except for Jane, who doesn't come off quite convincing. Lots of cool close-in fight sequences toward the end. Price goes through the finale like he's playing the lead in A Double Life.

Without that comedic parts it'd be a decent noir but not much more, especially once the mystery becomes clear halfway through the film. With the addition of Price the film gets a totally different tone and manages to be exciting and fun all the way through the end. That's not to take away from the more noir aspects which create the underlying tension and Mitchum's usual screen presence, but they work much better playing off the slightly surreal and larger than life part of the film.

My kind of movie. A more successful blend of noir and comedy from John Farrow, at times anticipating the work of the Coen brothers. A tasty cast, too. Title is completely random, apparently.

An extremely fun, tongue-in-cheek film noir. The exotic Mexico location and wonderful sets that make up the hotel resort are delightful, and the use of light and shadow is striking. Mitchum is excellent in his typical loner anti-hero role, with an endless string of clever one-liners at his disposal. His chemistry with Jane Russell is off the charts, and together they have many of the movie's best scenes. The large supporting cast also delivers, especially Vincent Price as comedic relief.

At 2 hours long, His Kind of Woman takes its time, but the blend of adventure, comedy and noir lends itself to the length, and it never feels overlong. It's a perfect mixture of the three genres, and gives it a wholly unique feel. Mitchum and Russell (looking sexy as hell) sizzle, and Price is hilarious, stealing scenes left and right with his incredibly campy performance. It's got great noir photography with a twisting plot, great performances, and laugh-out-loud humor.

Mitchum is cool and the dialogue is great. The movie, however, belongs to Vincent Price. He's on top form, hamming it up, and his amazing performance both elevates and disrupts the film, the result being a positively weird but definitely original genrebender.

A strange, unique movie: first half noir, last half comic swashbuckler. Vincent Price is wonderful--perhaps his best film performance.

Vincent Price and Robert Mitchum cashing in on their considerable comedic timing in this fun noir; becomes only slightly less entertaining when the more sinister elements kick in. Suffers mainly from production problem which becomes more obvious in the construction of its later half. I still had a blast.
