In this sophisticated romantic comedy, Alex "Hitch" Hitchens is a legendary - and deliberately anonymous - New York City "date doctor" who, for a fee, has helped countless men woo the women of their dreams. While coaching Albert, a meek accountant who is smitten with a glamorous celebrity, Hitch finally meets his match in the person of the gorgeous, whip-smart Sara, a gossip columnist who is on to him.

Not as awful as it could have been, and it has some genuinely funny moments, but the ultimate "love has no rules!" message is so moronic that it singlehandedly sours the whole thing.

Actually exceeded my very low expectations. In fact, I would say I liked the majority of it. The comedy was pretty consistent, and while it provided no real gut busters it made me laugh genuinely more often than not. The concept was original and done decently well. My only real concern came with the incredibly corny ending. I'm not saying it couldn't have a happy ending, I just would have preferred it to not be nearly as schmaltzy as it was.

Enjoyable rom-com is a little too overlong and ungainly to be truly memorable, but putters along good naturedly enough on the combined good-will and chemistry of its stars - Smith and James particularly make a terrific comic team and a whole film built around their burgeoning relationship may have worked much better. As it is, it feels too cluttered and distracted at times following its multiple story threads, ultimately feeling too bloated during the home stretch.

Amazing how Will Smith's charisma and charm can carry such a lite piece of fluff. But he does it, turning this would-be forgettable romance into a major blockbuster. Plus, you can't take your eyes off Eva Mendes, or the funny antics of average Joe's lame brother Kevin James.

Hitch is a simple but likeable film with fun performances from Will Smith, Kevin James and Eva Mendes. As rom coms go this is watchable for blokes but without Will Smith this film would have lacked mass appeal and it would have probably gone unnoticed. The concept is formulaic and predictable but Hitch has a feel good vibe and it exceeded my low expectations.

It has that romantic story that is simple but very enjoyable, it has lots of original ideas and above all it's a laugh out loud comedy that kept me laughing throughout the film. What else is there to say, I had a great time watching it. It does have some shallowness here and there sure, but that hardly diminished the fun.

It's about time the multiplex features a romantic comedy with a multi-cultural cast. As a New Jersean, I can honestly say Hitch did for New York what Pretty Woman did for Rodeo Drive. The city is appealing, the premise is intriguing and the acting quite wonderful. Only lovelorn prudes that have no hope of a great sex life could hate this movie.

Ok the first 75 minutes of this is not too good. But things turn during the speed dating scene. Will Smith actually makes me laugh during this scene, which surprised both myself and my date. I was almost embarrassed. I really didn't care too much for KJ overall, but he did a fair job depicting his character. Will really flips the script at the end of this movie, and really made me think. Maybe a love doctor isn't that bad of a thing. I can't say for sure that my date agreed with me.

What a formulaic load of crap even for Hollywood standards: The sleek love guru is of course deep down a good guy and is really just looking for true love bla bla bla. And as if that isn't enough it all ends with a big, happy dance number (!). I'd be much more interested in the alternative version featuring a brutally selfish pickup artist deliberately seducing hundreds of random women while enjoying his independence and freedom. Perhaps ending with a nice, over-the-top orgie. Just a suggestion.

you want to see formulaic? try this: black people are cool, fat people are funny, hot women are desperately single and rich white women only want to find their soulmate. while i do get the sense behind this predictable feel-good crap, and know what to expect by genre's standards, this was still SO fucking lazy. if i ever meet a person that talks fondly of this movie, i'm going to go clockwork orange on them, make 'em watch it over and over until it evokes the same urge to regurgitate i had.

One of the best of the genre, Will Smith at his most dazzlingly charming. Engaging, funny, rapid fire and well crafted Holywod rom com. Absolutely beauitful blend of absurd and sincere. Literally helped me to get over a relationship by thinking, yeah, if there are guys like Hitch's sweet and attentive clients out there, guys like the charming Hitch himself, why bother with this wishy washy jerk I'm wasting time with? Did the same for a friend of mine. Contemporary romance at its most amusing!
