Good gawd, this sucked. Hitch is portrayed as a morose, talentless weirdo, Reville as a humorless, deceitful superheroine, Stefano as a pathetic mama's boy and Perkins as an object of ridicule (He was gay, you see, and therefore ridiculous). The movie strives hard to make a feminist statement but stumbles and falls assfirst down a pit full of cock-shaped stalagmites. I wish this film was a small, adorable animal so I could bash it the fuck to death with a shovel.

This movie basically does two things. It shows off a respectable impersonation of Alfred Hitchcock, and it gets us amped to rewatch Psycho again. That's it, though. There's nothing sadder than a mediocre film about a great film.

I liked it. The acting elevates it past the material and if you've seen Psycho you'll get a little more out of it. James D'Arcy did a pretty fantastic embodiment of Anthony Perkins.

The acting was great, but the film is held back by the clunky and rather dull script. This had so much potential, but I left the screening feeling unaffected by it whatsoever. At least the pacing was nice.

The truthfulness of the picture may be in question but not its truthiness. This gives a good hard look at the toll taken from decades of obsessions on the man himself and most importantly his wife. What truly elevates it though is the performances of Mirren and Hopkins as endearing as our grandmother and father. Refreshingly the script goes for a less melodramatic portrayal of the events so that our affection for the characters endears us instead. Recommended.

Great, frothy fun. Sure, it's pretty much pure fiction, and it's not particularly insightful, but it's among the most entertaining movies of 2012. Hopkins hams it up and has a great time, and all the behind-the-scenes PSYCHO stuff is a gas to watch. Buoyantly paced and engagingly performed; it's loaded with affection for its subject matter, and that affection is positively infectious.

The psychosexual introspection into Hitchock is a bit thin since most directors probably touch themselves while watching their leading actresses through peepholes. Despite the weak premise Hopkins turns in another decent performance while looking like he has two jolly ranchers in his mouth every time Hitch speaks. Unfortunately, there wasn't anything particularly enlightening in this about Hitchcock the man and it didn't even begin to touch on his real genius as a film maker.

Devoutly conventional, cowardly film, preoccupied mainly with the saccharine marital melodrama that it conjures up between Hitch and his wife, and containing no insight whatsoever into Psycho or Hitchcock as an artist or real person. Hopkins and Mirren are good actors, but the script really soils them, and drags them down.

Gervasi's picture is focused on Alma and Alfred, and not really on the making of Psycho -- therefore, this is hardly an adaptation of the good book written by Rebello. Actually, this lazy, naive biopic is hardly a decent homage at all. Easy to watch -- the scenes with Hitch talking to Gein are really good --, but instantly forgettable.

Ultimately rather less intriguing than it should've been, Hitchcock is anchored by decent performances, a great sense of theatricality and fun, and some excellent scenes on the set of Psycho, but over-focus on personal relationships and weak pseudo-psychology dulls the affair a little.

I was glad that the comedic moments that were played up in the trailers weren't all throughout the film. I quite enjoyed it overall. Psycho is my favourite Hitchcock film, & I loved seeing all the scenes of them making it. I wish there had been more. Hopkins was excellent & completely disappeared into the character. The rest of the cast were fine too. The major thing I wasn't keen on was how it focused so much on Hitchcock's relationship with his wife. It just wasn't all that interesting to me.

It's less about Hitchcock in general, and more about Hitchcock making Psycho. It's a pretty interesting story, but all of the making-of business was a lot more interesting than all the off-camera stuff happening, like Hitchcock becoming suspicious that his wife is having an affair. I dunno, maybe the man just wasn't quite as interesting as the movies he made, and the way he made them.

I wouldn't recommend Hitchcock to cinephiles seeking a bold new take on the master's life or work, but if all you want is to while away the afternoon in the company of some excellent actors in plummy period costume, Gervasi's film is not without its pleasures.

Hitchcock is a valiant effort but ultimately nothing more than a dramatic representation of what you'd find on a Psycho DVD. Anthony Hopkins is superb, really making you feel like Hitchcock has returned from the grave, and Helen Mirren gives the more emotional of the two performances, but the film surrounding them is tonal inconsistent and constantly awaiting our approval, as if it's never sure about what it's portraying. I think it's worth seeing, but as a supplement after seeing Psycho again.

For this who appreciate dry Hitchcockian humor, or sometimes not so dry (Hitch without the cock), excellent dialogue/story and display of Thespianism, this is for you. The only action is the filming of an action/horror movie, Psycho, around which the story evolves. Hitchcock was an interesting character, as was his wife, Alma, whom this movie (and Helen Mirren) brings to the limelight. Scarlett Johansson is a knockout as a classy Janet Leigh. Great performances, it's just a shame that apart from recreating a couple of scenes from Psycho for the novelty of doing so, didn't really add much. It doesn't seem to take itself too seriously to some extent, and because of that suffers. Wants to be great, ends up just...okay.

Well made on a technical level and the acting and direction is fine, but the script here is absolutely terrible. One side of the film is the making of Psycho, which is somewhat intriguing, but then the rest of the film is a dull drama about Hitchcock and his wife and partner having marriage problems due to his weird obsessions. I am all for having a film that gives more credit to Alma Reville, but the film is too on-the-nose in its attempt to make Hitch seem like a psycho.

Fine examination of the relationship between Mr & Mrs Hitch, built around a persuasive and convincing portrayal by Hopkins, though Mirren's very liberated Alma doesn't really convince as written. The screenplay loses its way when it delves into speculations of Alma's potential marital indiscretions, but vivid (albeit brief) evocation of the PSYCHO movie set (and a fine pair of performances from Johansson and Biel as two of Hitch's blondes, as well as D'Arcy's Perkins) make the film worthwhile.

I liked it, but it really is disappointing in so many ways. Mirren is dull (esp. because way too much time is wasted on Alma when the production of Psycho has so many interesting anecdotes) and Hopkins is only OK, but the supporting cast has solid performances from Johansson and James D'Arcy. The film also has these terrible scenes where Hitchcock talks to Ed Gein. It's a shame, because the look inside the Hollywood of the late 50s is really fun.

As Alfred Hitchcock/Anthony Hopkins says in this movie, "It's stillborn." It's a letdown of a movie about the making of a cinema classic, "Psycho." While Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren turn in great performances, as you would expect, the movie never manages to come to life. It's rather dull and, frankly, kind of sad. I can't really give a good recommendation to this one.

Good Evening. This tale was quite intriguing. Not only was the acting superb, but the subject matter was very interesting. Hopkins was spot on as Hitch. I was also glad to hear the Hitchcock theme song at the start. A few parts were dry but being a big Hitchcock fan myself I couldn't get enough. I wanted to pop in Psycho right after this was over. The ending also had a great Alfred Hitchcock presents moment. I'm so glad they made this movie. I learned so much. It was very good.

Everything but the opening and ending scenes worked incredibly well for me. I didn't expect to like this, but I really did, probably largely thanks to its conservative running time and magnificent performances; Hopkins in particular can be faulted only for it being a small initial distraction to attempt (unsuccessfully) to recognize the man behind the part. Perhaps a bit too much focus on the Gein obsession, but overall that angle pays off relatively well.

(Viewed on 04/02/13): A passable, if pointless, film about Hitchcock's trials and tribulations in bringing his classic Psycho to the screen and the impact it had on his marriage. Hopkins is well cast and rather jovial as Hitchcock, and he manages to translate the more eccentric aspects of his personality, even if he overdoes it. Mirren is also good as his wife, but the script is really conventional and shows no insight into the man or his craft, or what made him one of the all time greats.

It wasn't really interesting. When I started watching I thought I will see a complete account of Hitchcock's life, but the movie only features a few months of it. The picture has its good points and it's certainly entertaining from beginning to end, you won't be bored and you will have a good time watching it, but I feel like they missed an opportunity to tell more about this famous director. Good if you want a bit unusual, but solid entertainment, just don't expect much of it.

I went into Hitchcock thinking it would be an almost Hitchcockian thriller into the auteur's decaying psyche as he made Psycho. The film is instead a tiresome biopic focusing on his relationship with his wife (and women in general). It was well-cast and very well-acted (Hopkins & Mirren particularly) but never really interesting, using hindsight to create smug portrayals of the characters and throwing in the occasional obnoxious nod-and-wink. D'Arcy was severely under-used.
