Amusing Marx Brothers zaniness, it hits more than it misses, but it still misses a lot for my taste.

duck soup or night at the opera are slightly better, overall, but you really cant go wrong here. groucho is the king of the one-liners, whether they be ironic or non sequiters, though he is rivaled by the ultimate flim-flam man in chico.

One of my two favorite Marx Brothers movies (the other is "Monkey Business") probably because both of them feature the witty dialogue of S.J. Perleman. Although not as surrealistic as "Duck Soup," this movie's college football plot--though disposable--is an effective device for moving the film along.

I love the comedy teams of the black and white era. In my opinion, the Marx brothers were the worst of these though. I thought they were very unfunny and the jokes and their stories didn't make much sense. This movie is a prime example of that. That had to be one of the worst football sequences I've ever watched. I know that I'm in the minority in this, but the Marx brothers are just plain unfunny.

Not quite as funny as Monkey Business, but damn near close and the finale was much much goofier and more spectacular. Nobody really gets in their way this time either, there's really very little interaction with the straight world and the film greatly benefits from it. And, "I'm Against It." I sing that song aloud at least twice a week. Catchy as all get out, that song is.

The one about a University. Horse Feathers has the bizzare distinction of having the most famous Marx Brothers scene in it, (the Swordfish scene,) while simultaneously being totally forgettable. It's really not good. It had a whole lot of Chico and Harpo in it, which may explain its quality. I mean, the football sequence at the end is just so incredibly stupid, and goes on forever. The Swordfish scene is on youtube, I'd say just watch that there and skip this movie. They made better ones.

one of the better early marx brothers movies. sadly, i have yet to see one that blew me away, because i have only a couple left to see. this one is one that i do not completely regret watching, yet i still find that all the hullabaloo is unjustified and the humor is overstated. writing wise, i've never heard a single person say that a marx brothers movie was a priceless piece of cinema.

I have to write this review, but there's no reason you folks can't go out into the lobby until the screen saver comes on. Everyone is pretty good in this, the song is finally woven into the story, such as it is, properly. It's got a bunch of great period bits that stand up, the college satire, gamblers, a speakeasy, an old school football game.

(Movie 750) It's very funny, the Marx Brothers generally are, but it is sort of bogged down in the thing that nearly kills all of their movies, the musical numbers. When Chico and Harpo show off their instrumental talent, it is nice. But the singing? Not so much.

Probably my second or third favourite Marx brothers film. "Duck Soup" is the best, with this and "A Day at the Races" at the next level. Along with "Trouble in Paradise," the highest scoring film of 1932.
