They are invited into a man's house where he tells them of a hostel somewhere in eastern Europe where the women are all incredibly hot and have a taste for American men. It feels like some slow thriller of travelers getting gaslit in a creepy town, with some torture slapped in an hour in. Where a more erotic Eurotrip turns into some fake limbs cutting. Gorefests are not my thing, but it wasn't so bad since it looked fake. It was a good change to see characters that are not as dumb as those in many other horror movies, I won't spoil more, but you get attached to some because of this.

The first third of the movie is basically porn, the last two thirds are some of the most brutal scenes you're likely to see on film, though given the setting and "plot", they work surprisingly well. The end of the movie is truly what saves it from being an all time bust; I personally wanted to stand up and applaud as I watched it in my living room.

Yet another awsome horror film. And a whole league above "Saw" in the gore section! The story could be better, but it serves it's purpose. The acting is good, as is the directing. And the gore is just amazing. A bit too much hype from people, but it's not dissapointing. Several cringe-worthy moments. This is certainly the better of the two films to come from Eli Roth (the other being Cabin Fever)

Great new imagining of Horror from Eli Roth. Tits and Ass mixed with blood bath to give that kind of porn-snuff-horror film. It transcends that, though, because at the end, all the gore comes down to a point about torture these days, in an exciting allegory.

Lots of tits and nudity and sex don't really make up for the gore in this film. While it is shock cinema and is intended to make you squirm, it's not particularly noteworthy. More like Texas Chainsaw Massacre on steroids. Torture Porn at its ugliest, Hostel is a decent movie that doesn't have much going for it. It'll make you sick to your stomach, so don't watch it right after dinner.

Hostel is definitely a movie to be seen if you are a fan of the genre, but fragile characters may easily be disturbed by this movie. Torture porn is only funny for so long, Hostel exaggerates it a bit. If you want to get your friends to get to like the Torture/Horror genre, this is certainly not the one to start of with.

This is the best type of satire, one that is so clever that the majority of the audience doesn't even think it is one. Subtle messages about degradation of women around the world and the lack of multiculturalism to be found in a typical American young adult, all while remaining tense and a bit suspenseful.

Do you like porn but wish there was more over the top gore? How about snuff films with huge production budgets? Then you'll love hostel. Acting: boo, Plot: boo, nudity:pretty sweet (but I need a little more in a movie).

The poster billed this as a super gore fest. Don't buy the hype. The only even remotely disturbing part they cut away from during the money shot. Other than that, the movie is a slasher flick with extremely unlikable douchebag frat-dog party boy characters that deserved their fucking fate.

Great premise with a lot of potential for scares, which is unfortunately thrown away very quickly by Roth's penchant for frat-boy humor, sloppy storytelling, and ineffective cinematography. The whole movie is an hour long build-up to nothing much, lazily disguised as social commentary.

The content of the film is definitely horrific. However, it lost me with a few choice pieces of cheap gore effects. Personally I'm not one for senseless horror, or the retelling of a true story based on such.
