Summary: 3 backpackers are in Amsterdam where they get locked out of their youth hostel. They are invited into a man's house where he tells them of a hostel somewhere in eastern Europe where the women are all incredibly hot and have a taste for American men. When they get there, everything is too good to be true - the hostel is "to die for" (imdb)

For what it is and for what it's trying to be (which really isn't much), you can't fault this movie. Acting, dialogue, sets, and story are all passable. However, the fact that the bar is set so low also makes this a kind of crap movie. Basically, it's all about torture, and the viewer is conditioned at the very beginning to expect little else. Are the torture scenes gruesome? Sure. Will you care about the people being tortured or those doing the deed? Probably not.

Lots of tits and nudity and sex don't really make up for the gore in this film. While it is shock cinema and is intended to make you squirm, it's not particularly noteworthy. More like Texas Chainsaw Massacre on steroids. Torture Porn at its ugliest, Hostel is a decent movie that doesn't have much going for it. It'll make you sick to your stomach, so don't watch it right after dinner.

Great new imagining of Horror from Eli Roth. Tits and Ass mixed with blood bath to give that kind of porn-snuff-horror film. It transcends that, though, because at the end, all the gore comes down to a point about torture these days, in an exciting allegory.
