Steven King ruined the whole "troubled writer haunted by his past" story with...pretty much every single story he's ever written. Add to that some goofy monster design and a story that bounces about more than a superball in a baby buggy, and one might think this movie was destined for the red tiers. Why the 70, then? Easy. It stars Bull from Night Court as a rotting Vietnam vet zombie and Norm from Cheers as...well, Norm.

This film used to be played all the time on network TV weekend afternoons back in the 80's so i've seen it more times than I care to remember. It's not completely horrible and it's campy enough to be entertaining. I remember the Vietnam flashbacks as being pretty cheesy though. Miner films are totally conventional with student film like beats but they work simply because it's so cheesy.

Full of rubbery monsters and flat humor (though Wendt is amusing as a nosy neighbor), this film is a clutter of disparate elements that never come together, yet it was somehow popular enough to inspire three sequels. Lenz is utterly wasted in the thankless role of Katt's bitchy ex-wife.

Doesn't really work as either a horror or a comedy. The most frightening part of the whole movie is the fact that the blonde neighbor didn't bat an eye when our main character chased her two year old son into a bathroom, from which room said child emerged VISIBLY SHAKEN and CRYING. And then she just leaves the kid with the dude all night. What the fuck are you thinking, lady?!

Some funny parts in this horror-comedy but it focuses on horror more than the comedy. This is a bad move because it's not scary as it intends to be but when it wants to be funny, it is. As with a lot of films from the 80's it's packed with trademark 80's style which can be good, if you enjoy that kind of campy style, or it can be bad if it's not your bag. Some of it's surreal elements are interesting but I be lying if I said I wanted to see this film more than once.
