More creepy than funny. It isn't consistently good enough throughout to be something I'd want to watch and is also a little too creepy for my liking.

Stronger than Fred Dekker's other '86 effort 'Night of the Creeps' in that it better meets the two criteria of a horror comedy.

Silly film in which the creatures look ridiculous and the psychology makes no sense, especially when the whole thing attempts to be a protest about Vietnam.

This film used to be played all the time on network TV weekend afternoons back in the 80's so i've seen it more times than I care to remember. It's not completely horrible and it's campy enough to be entertaining. I remember the Vietnam flashbacks as being pretty cheesy though. Miner films are totally conventional with student film like beats but they work simply because it's so cheesy.

Not bad for some 80's cheese. If you're into corny 80's comedy/horror, this is definitely worth a viewing. Norm from Cheers gives and Oscar worthy performance as the annoying next door neighbor.

This opens as a straight-forward, if mostly ineffectual, chiller, cluttered with grim 'Nam flashbacks, before careening into broad comedy and finally collapsing into a failed EC Comics-styled gruefest.

Lots of horror effects that don't hang together, but a quirky attitude, and a sense of humor, buoy things enough to make this moderately entertaining.

More comedy than horror but, at the same time, not really funny either. Probably would've been better with all George Wendt and no William Katt.

Slick-looking but hopelessly juvenile haunted house comedy. Full of rubbery monsters and flat humor (though Wendt is amusing as a nosy neighbor), this film is a clutter of disparate elements that never come together, yet it was somehow popular enough to inspire three sequels. Lenz is utterly wasted in the thankless role of Katt's bitchy ex-wife.

a childhood favourite turned into an adult dislike. house is a film about a man battling his past demons, but it never gets the tone right. the comedy and horror seem to exist separately. there also feels like way too much going on without a lot of explanation.

Silly. Very, veery silly. I liked Wendt.

Decent horror comedy.

When I was little I was always fascinated by the cover of the VHS tape whenever I saw it at the video store. Pretty good comedic horror film.

Crap. Like one of the worst TV shows ever, or something

House is a very casual horror movie. It takes a lot of time to be funny and relaxed while spreading the horror elements across the film leading it to a hardly climactic, but fine ending. Meh!

Scary plus funny is not always a recipe for success. Watchable, but hardly notable.

Genuinely creepy as I recall, but still very pretentious and dry in several parts, holding this back from a higher score.

Some funny parts in this horror-comedy but it focuses on horror more than the comedy. This is a bad move because it's not scary as it intends to be but when it wants to be funny, it is. As with a lot of films from the 80's it's packed with trademark 80's style which can be good, if you enjoy that kind of campy style, or it can be bad if it's not your bag. Some of it's surreal elements are interesting but I be lying if I said I wanted to see this film more than once.

Not that bad, actually. Some of the scenes are genuinely creepy and it keeps a pretty good sense of humor throughout.

having had pioneered the comedy/horror genre it hardly is logical to give this a regular score (70's) so thus i must give it a better one, especially since i will watch this movie at least once per year.
