Not bad for some 80's cheese. If you're into corny 80's comedy/horror, this is definitely worth a viewing. Norm from Cheers gives and Oscar worthy performance as the annoying next door neighbor.

This film used to be played all the time on network TV weekend afternoons back in the 80's so i've seen it more times than I care to remember. It's not completely horrible and it's campy enough to be entertaining. I remember the Vietnam flashbacks as being pretty cheesy though. Miner films are totally conventional with student film like beats but they work simply because it's so cheesy.

More comedy than horror but, at the same time, not really funny either. Probably would've been better with all George Wendt and no William Katt.

This opens as a straight-forward, if mostly ineffectual, chiller, cluttered with grim 'Nam flashbacks, before careening into broad comedy and finally collapsing into a failed EC Comics-styled gruefest.

I'd like to see a sequel that has William Katt and George Wendt get a tv show on PBS where they renovate and restore old haunted houses.

Stronger than Fred Dekker's other '86 effort 'Night of the Creeps' in that it better meets the two criteria of a horror comedy.

Bizarre and cheesy. If it was supposed to be more of a comedy than a horror I would say it's a basic success. If it's trying to be more of a horror than it probably should have been written in a way where any character used any logic whatsoever at any given point.

If the entire film were as ridiculous and over-the-top as the last five minutes, House could have been a very entertaining experience. However, it's mostly a hodgepodge of lifeless cliches that don't merit reexamination.

Some funny parts in this horror-comedy but it focuses on horror more than the comedy. This is a bad move because it's not scary as it intends to be but when it wants to be funny, it is. As with a lot of films from the 80's it's packed with trademark 80's style which can be good, if you enjoy that kind of campy style, or it can be bad if it's not your bag. Some of it's surreal elements are interesting but I be lying if I said I wanted to see this film more than once.

House is a very casual horror movie. It takes a lot of time to be funny and relaxed while spreading the horror elements across the film leading it to a hardly climactic, but fine ending. Meh!

Steven King ruined the whole "troubled writer haunted by his past" story with...pretty much every single story he's ever written. Add to that some goofy monster design and a story that bounces about more than a superball in a baby buggy, and one might think this movie was destined for the red tiers. Why the 70, then? Easy. It stars Bull from Night Court as a rotting Vietnam vet zombie and Norm from Cheers as...well, Norm.

Doesn't really work as either a horror or a comedy. The most frightening part of the whole movie is the fact that the blonde neighbor didn't bat an eye when our main character chased her two year old son into a bathroom, from which room said child emerged VISIBLY SHAKEN and CRYING. And then she just leaves the kid with the dude all night. What the fuck are you thinking, lady?!

Not funny enough to be a comedy, and not scary enough to be a horror film. This film feels like that of a bygone era I can imagine that someone who watched it 30 years ago would still love it today. Anyone else? Doubtful.
