Jim Carrey delivers another interesting dramatic/comedic performance, but the film never drove me to believe any of it. I felt like caricatures dominated every scene. Carrey, while a heck of a performer, ultimately made his character Steven so unlikable that the film just about lost me completely. And despite quite the rip-roaring string of events that are 'apparently true,' I had nothing and no one to root for.

"It's funny because it's true. That's the idea behind the mad-love story I Love You Phillip Morris, which gets its kicks by being much stranger than fiction."

It was a bit different seeing a shirtless Jim Carrey having sex. Enjoyable acting and writing. Good performances. A bit stretched out, though.

Very interesting film to see, never great but occasionally endearing, It fucks me up a little to see Jim Carrey getting old, because when I was 8 years old Ace Ventura made me laugh my head off. That aside, both he and McGregor are very good in their roles, and this is definitely worth a watch.

A lot of fun; Jim Carrey is really great in his role and McGregor is completely believable as well. That this is based on a true story is amazing... don't know why it took so long to be released; completely harmless fun.

I dont often agree with what the dvd box says, but I do in this case, one of careys better performances. very entertaining movie, and the premise is crazy, the fact that its for the most part true is even crazier. it is indeed a story that needed told. I enjoyed every minute of it, and if you have the ability to disregard your preconcieved notions you just might enoy it as well.

gets off to a strong start, but can't manage to keep its pace up. The 90 minute movie feels almost twice as long, but it has its moments and Jim Carrey gives a truly inspired performance that brilliantly balances his own style of wacky comedy with depth and truth.

Darkly hilarious but genuinely moving at the same time. A great example of using editing as a comedic device, as cuts are often the source of the biggest laughs. Carrey and McGregor are both great.

This could have been a (very) good movie, but Jim Carrey should have stayed serious ALL the time. It seems like they couldn't decide what genre they were willing to go for, and therefore the movie is a lot worse then it could have been...

I Love You Phillip Morris manages to be charming and ridiculous; Jim Carrey puts on a great performance as Steven Jay Russell, easily falling into Russell's different and increasingly false performances. He gets a little bit over the top at times, but that's permissible within a movie that doesn't take itself so seriously. What really impressed me was how heartwarming and tearjerking this film could get, and how well it combined that with the ridiculous.

It's smart and funny and oddly sweet, and it's always nice to see Carrey take on a role that's a little way outside most audiences' comfort zones, but ever so often the script loses its way and takes a bit too long to get back on track. Having said that, it's a film that stands ably on its own merits and doesn't depend on controversy to make it a worthy watch.

i have no doubts that this movie would make the most sexually comfortable hetero men uncomfortable. myself included. i feel like none of the comedy what so ever drew off of the sexual orientation of the main characters, thus leaving this movie to be a gay pride prison breakout movie, with half a laugh included.

Requa and Ficarra should own up to their feelings for each other instead of spewing out movies, that reek of homophobia yet clearly fixates on anal sex. It's 'Catch Me if You Can' with the most despicable and stereotypical gays imaginable (Assault! How romantic...), played by McGregor and Carrey, the way a JOCK would interpret Oscar Wilde, with the chemistry of shit meets shoe. The absolute anti-'Brokeback Mountain', a mockery of homosexuals everywhere, and a career low for all involved.
