Dunne's performance is very moving, and the supporting cast--particularly Cedric Hardwicke and Oscar Homolka--is also fine. Steven's slow direction gives the whole a dignity and sweetness that few directors are capable of.

Is gooood, but not really much more than that. Decent performances, decent directing, reasonably interesting scenes, but nothing that really stands out and absolutely no reason why it should be well over two hours long.

a terribly boring movie that is in no way above average. it makes no effort to make the characters relatable, and it simply takes too much effort to care about them at all. this movie has little plot development and that which does occur is boring.
